Hellmuth's Home Game

Every Monday night, Hellmuth’s Home Game presented by Poker Night in America (PNIA) and sponsored by BetRivers has aired on CBS Sports.

The nationally-televised show, which was filmed at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada and airs weekly at 10:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. PT until the end of 2025, is unique in that there is no commentary. Instead, the show is carried by table talk from Phil Hellmuth alongside a cast of fellow pros and friends in an intimate, relaxed cash game setting.

PokerNews watched the latest episode – which was the fifth of the season – and compiled a recap of some of the biggest hands and interesting storylines.

You can also watch the fifth episode on YouTube now.

Here’s how things stacked up at the start of the show:

PlayerStack
DJ Washburn$51,750
Dan “Jungleman” Cates$46,300
Phil Hellmuth$3,925
Xuan Liu$26,850
Phillip Hellmuth III$4,975
Randy “3Coin” Sadler$25,950
Alex$25,275

The game was played with $25/$50 blinds with a $50 big blind ante. Here’s a look at some of the biggest hands from the episode.

Early Double for the Poker Brat

In the first hand of the episode, Xuan Liu looked down at the 33 and raised to $200, which Hellmuth called next to act in the hijack holding the AQ. Alex came along from the small blind with the Q8, Randy “3Coin” Sadler from the big with the 55, and Dan “Jungleman” Cates put in an additional $100 from the straddle with his 64.

It was five-way action to a flop of J6K, and action checked to Hellmuth, who checked behind with his straight and flush draws. The 10 turn completed the said straight, and after Alex checked, 3Coin bet $400. Cates raised to $1,600 with bottom pair, Liu folded, and Hellmuth just called while saying, “I am not going to fold this.”

Alex got out of the way, 3Coin called, and the Q completed the board on the river.

“Check. Surrender,” said 3Coin. Cates thought long and hard before betting $4,000, and Hellmuth called off his remaining $2,125. 3Coin quickly folded, and Hellmuth took down the $11,975 pot with the nuts.

Hellmuth Overbets River

Hand 2

After forgetting to straddle, Cates raised to $150 under the gun with the QJ. Hellmuth called from the hijack holding the 94, DJ Washburn came along from the cutoff with the 76, and Alex called out of the small blind with his 82 to make it four-way action to a flop of 6AQ.

Three checks saw Washburn bet $500 with bottom pair, Alex folded, and both Cates and Hellmuth called to see 2 appear on the turn. Cates checked, and Hellmuth, who made a spade flush, coyly checked behind.

Washburn also checked, and the 7 completed the board on the river. After Cates checked, Hellmuth bet $2,375 into the pot of $2,200. Washburn called with two pair, Cates folded, and Hellmuth won a pot worth $6,950.

“I’m onto gangster poker, bro,” Hellmuth exclaimed.

We’re Still Friends?

Alex raised to $400 with the 98 in the cutoff and Ca,tes called from the small blind holding the 55. Xuan came along from the big with her 105 and Hellmuth, who had straddled to $100, called with the J2.

It was four-way action to the JA3 flop, and three checks saw Alex continue for $1,000 with his flush draw. Both Cates and Xuan folded, and Hellmuth called with middle pair. Hellmuth checked dark headed to the turn, which was the 2 and gave him two pair.

Alex checked behind and then paired up on the 9 river. Hellmuth bet $3,000 and Alex pondered what to do, seemingly enticed to potentially see a Hellmuth blowup if he was right.

“We’re still friends if I’m right?” Alex asked before tossing in a call and watching the $9,650 pot pushed to Hellmuth.

Cooler Flop Results in Monster Pot

Hand 4

Alex raised to $400 from the cutoff with the 102 only to have 3Coin three-bet to $900 holding the A10. The rest of the players folded, Alex four-bet to $3,500, and 3Coin pushed back with a five-bet to $6,100.

Alex called and then checked dark to the flop, which came a cooler 1010Q, giving both players trips. 3Coin coyly checked back and the A hit the turn. Alex, who was drawing dead, moved all in for $12,325 and was called by 3Coin, who claimed a pot worth $37,075.

The meaningless 6 was run out on the rive,r and 3Coin was pushed the pot.

This Game Had Lost Its Mind

Hellmuth called with the 108 and DJ Washburn with the Q8 before Alex raised to $800 from the button with the KQ. 3Coin just called with the AK in the small blind, and then Cates looked down at the AJ in the big blind and three-bet to $4,000.

Action folded to Ale,x and he moved all in for $16,025. 3Coin then five-bet jammed for $26,150, and Cates said, “I didn’t expect that. I don’t know what to do.”

Eventually, Cates called to create a $68,675 pot while adding, “This game has lost its mind.”

The triumvirate ran it just once, and the K55 flop was gin for 3Coin, who just had to avoid runner-runner. The 6 turn locked it up for 3Coin, and he claimed the biggest pot of the night after the 2 was run out on the river.

Here’s how things looked when the game came to an end.
