This Popular Las Vegas Poker Room to Reopen for First Time Since COVID
Henderson, Nevada, a large Las Vegas suburb, will soon have a full-time poker room for the first time since COVID.
Station Casinos announced the upcoming return of the poker room at Green Valley Ranch, a popular casino within the vibrant Green Valley community, an area of town about 15 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip. No specific date other than "late 2025" has been determined for the reopening. But the casino did provide some details via a press release.
Las Vegas Poker Room Reopening Details
Green Valley Ranch closed its poker room in 2020 during COVID, and it never reopened. The card room, located steps from the sportsbook, has since been replaced with a smoke-free slot machine area.
Station Casinos, until now, didn't have any plans to bring back what was once a popular place to play poker among Henderson locals. But, per a press release, guests demanded its return.
The new Green Valley Ranch poker room, set to debut before the calendar shifts to 2026, will have 16 poker tables, nearly twice the size of its pre-pandemic state. The room will be open 24/7, the only such card room in Henderson. Skyline Casino, a small, mostly locals property, has a two-table poker room that is only open at certain times.
The poker room reopening is part of a $200 million remodeling phase at GVR, a resort with amenities similar to what gamblers and tourists receive on the Las Vegas Strip. Green Valley Ranch's poker room will offer mostly low-stakes games, much like players came to expect before the room closed in 2020.
Las Vegas' poker industry has been on a steady rise since the March 2020 pandemic closures. There are still numerous card rooms that never reopened, however. That list includes Harrah's, The Strat (previously Stratosphere), Mirage (casino no longer in operation), and Green Valley Ranch, among others.
There are currently 20 poker rooms in operation across town, with GVR soon to become the 21st. The poker room at GVR was mostly a locals' favorite, especially for those residing in Henderson's Green Valley community. It was convenient for those who live in the area and don't particularly care to drive to the Strip to play cards.
Station Casinos operates three other poker rooms, one at Boulder Station east of the Strip, one at Red Rock in Summerlin, an upscale suburban area west of the Strip, and the third at Santa Fe Station, in the northwest area of town.
