Player Goes All In with Six-High Before an Insane Runout on Venetian Poker Live
Sunday's Venetian Poker Live cash game provided some juicy hands, none more epic than an aggressive play with six-high.
The $25/$50 no-limit hold'em cash game took place on a livestream from inside the Venetian poker room in Las Vegas. There was no shortage of action players at the table, and the game often played bigger than the blinds would indicate.
Six-Four is a Popular Hand
"Ironman" called off a bet of $400 preflop with A♦J♣ before "Dr. Costa" moved all in for $5,650 with 6♥4♥. Following a tank, Ironman decided to make the call with the best hand in what would become one of the biggest pots of the four-hour session. Both players agreed to run the board just one time, setting up potential for some max pain.
The flop came out J♠6♣6♦, trips for Dr. Costa, which left Ironman drawing to just two outs. He wouldn't hit one of those outs on the turn, which was the 2♦. But the J♥ on the river was the dream card. After all that, the player who was ahead when all the money went in the middle won the hand, but not without a bit of drama along the way.
Ironman took down the $12,075 pot. He'd go on to win $36,400 in the game, second best at the table. "JP" was the biggest winner, up $42,500. Dr. Costa left the game down $24,800, but it could have been different if not for the brutal jack on the river.
If it makes Dr. Costa feel any better, he wasn't the only player to lose a bunch loosely playing six-four. In another wild hand, with the Nit Game on and four players limping for $100, "Dee Arrr" raised to $1,750 from the small blind with 6♠4♥, trying to take it down preflop to win a nit button. Bad news for him, however, as "Garma" woke up with K♠K♥ in the big blind and three-bet to $5,000.
JP, one of the limpers, called off his last $4,500 with A♦Q♦. Dee Arrr, the biggest stack, called to hit a small pair on the 10♥7♦4♠ flop. Garma only had $3,100 behind, so there was no way of Dee Arrr getting away from his hand given the pot odds. They'd get it in on the flop before agreeing to run the turn and river just once for both the main and side pots.
The turn was the 5♦, giving JP the nut flush draw. He wouldn't hit his flush on the turn, but would instead spike the A♣ on the river to scoop the main pot. Garma got a rebate from the side pot against Dee Arrrr, who ended up being the biggest loser in the game, down $49,250.
