888poker Rakeless Mystery Bounty Main Event

The second installment of the RAKELESS Mystery Bounty Main Event at 888poker attracted 904 entrants who all enjoyed not paying a single cent in rake in the $109 buy-in tournament. Those 904 entrants weren't enough to hit the $100,000 guarantee, but a slight overlay added even more value.

All of the largest mystery bounties were won during Sunday's Day 1. "t0nyshark" of Ukraine, final table bubble popper "ckb4714," and Sweden's "MsLotto" each opened a golden envelope containing $3,000. The biggest bounty, one weighing in at a cool $10,000, went to the online poker veteran Nicolas "PKAiser" Fierro, whose $10,823 haul was the largest of the entire tournament.

Day 1 ended with only eight players remaining, and very little separating the top two. Lithuania's "Ak921" held the narrowest of chip leads, their 3,614,704 putting them less than a big blind ahead of Danish grinder's "fresok." "D.N.P." was the shortest stack courtesy of finishing Day 1 with the equivalent of four big blinds.

Unsurprisingly, the micro-stacked Brit "D.N.P." was the first player heading to the rail. They open-shoved with jack-eight of hearts in early position, "Ak921" called with eight-seven of diamonds from a couple of seats across. A seven on the flop was enough to send "D.N.P." to the sidelines.

Ten minutes later, "ugotironed" joined their fellow Brit on the rail after an unfortunate deal. "ugotironed" min-raised under the gun with ace-king, "slmzrj" three-bet from the small blind, resulting in the initial raise four-bet jamming for 12.7 big blinds in total. "slmzrj" instantly called with pocket aces, and the at-risk player was drawing dead on the turn.

Sixth place went to "Steed4321," another player from the United Kingdom. An hour and 20 into the final table's action, just as the blinds had increased, the action folded to "Steed4321" in the small blind, who wasted no time moving all-in for 8.4 big blinds with pocket eights. Ordinarily, this move may have won the blinds and antes. However, "fresof" held pocket tens in the big blind and quickly called. Both players flopped a set, but there was no miracle one-outer for "Steed4321," and they crashed out of the RAKELESS Mystery Bounty Main Event.

The final five became four soon after when the first of the three Brazilians at the final table, "XachiXa," ran out of steam. Similar to the exit of "Steed4321," "XachiXa" busted after a battle of the blinds didn't go their way. "jujuporetta" open-shoved from the small blind with ace-eight of hearts, and "XachiXa" called off their 14.4 big blinds from the big blind with the dominated ace-seven. A jack-high board was no help to the all-in player, and they headed for the exits.

The start-of-the-day chip leader," Ak921," was the next player relieved of their chip, their deep run ending in a fourth-place finish. The players had not long returned from a scheduled break when "slmzrj" pushed all-in from the small blind with queen-jack of diamonds. "Ak921" decided king-trey was strong enough to call off their 8.1 big blinds with, and they hit the call button. "slmzrj" turned a flush then avoided a higher flush redraw on the river to reduce the player count.

Heads-up was reached when Brazilian "slmzrj" fell by the wayside in third. They looked down at ace-six of spades and moved all-in from the button for a shade over 10 big blinds. "fresok" snap-called from the big blind with ace-queen of diamonds, which held on a king-high board.

"fresof" held a better than two-to-one chip advantage over "jujuporetta" at the start of heads-up play, and it proved a gap too substantial to bridge for the latter. Less than five minutes into the clash, "jujuporreta" limped with pocket threes before shoving for 22.3 big blinds after "fresok" had three-bet. "fresof" called the jam with ace-queen, and it was off to the races. The pocket three remained the best hand on the flop, but were then reduced to needing two outs when a queen landed on the turn. A brick of a river later, and "fresof" became the $100,000 RAKELESS Mystery Bounty Main Event champion.
