Romanian poker player "getoverhere" may have sat down at the $80,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event final table with half the chips as the chip leader, but they still managed to help themselves to every chip in play and become the latest grinder to capture 888poker's flagship tournament's title.
The $109 buy-in event attracted 776 entries, including re-entries, resulting in a slight overlay on the $80,000 guarantee. Mystery bounties came into play at the start of Level 18, and one player had a whale of a time opening the golden envelopes.
Costa Rican "estebanss12" may have bowed out in 22nd place, a finish good for $232, but that only tells part of the story. You see, "estebanns12" eliminated three opponents while the mystery bounties were active.
One contained the minimum $28.02 but the other two were huge, weighing in at $3,200 and a cool $8,000! Their total take-home pay of $11,516 was over $3,600 more than the eventual champion got their hands on, showing that mystery bounties make it possible to win big scores without you needing to take the tournament down.

"LeoJoseCarne" started the final table fifth in chips with 28 big blinds, but they were still the first player relieved of their stack. They lost about half of their stack with pocket jacks against "MichaelBusto," who held pocket queens, and they never fully recovered. They eventually called off their last 10 big blinds on the river of a king-high board with king-deuce only to discover their opponent held a superior king-queen.
Seventh place was decided as the action reached the half-hour stage. "simenuts" open-shoved in the small blind with king-jack, "Brssfrss" instantly called all-in for 15 big blinds with ace-jack, and "simenuts" flopped a king-high straight.
"Ak921" only had two big blinds when "Brssfrss" busted. Unsurprisingly, they were the next eliminated player. They were blinded out five hands later in a hand where "getoverhere" lost all but six big blinds with pocket threes against pocket kings; "Ak921" had queen-four when they crashed out.
Five minutes after the players returned from a scheduled break, "morgan33332" busted in, clashing with "getoverhere." The latter min-raised in late position with pocket queens before calling the 10 big blind shove that "morgan33332" made with ace-jack. No help arrived for "morgan33332," and the tournament was left with only four players.
Those four became three when "TreeOML14" of Ukraine lost to "getoverhere" in a battle of the blinds. "getoverhere" completed the small blind before snap-calling their opponent's near-14 big blind shove. "TreeOML14" turned over king-jack, which needed help to beat "getoverhere"'s pocket queens. They paired their jack on the river but it was a case of too little, too late.
The $80,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event advanced to the heads-up stage with the untimely demise of "MichaelBusto." The players hadn't long returned from a second scheduled break when "getoverhere" moved all in with jack-ten in the small blind. "MichaelBusto" called all-in for 12.5 big blinds with king-queen. A king-ten-seven flop improved both players, with a jack on the turn gifting "getoverhere" two pair. A king, nine, or ace on the river would have won the hand for "MichaelBusto," but that river was a six. GG.
