The World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas is coming to an end. But the tournament poker grind never stops, and one of the next big events will take place in Texas.
Champions Club in Houston, one of the top card rooms in the Lone Star State, is set to host the Texas Summer Poker Open starting Aug. 5. The series, which features $1.2 million in guarantees, runs through Aug. 17.
Series Highlights
The action heats up right off the bat with the $400 No-Limit Hold'em Monster Stack at 11 a.m. on Aug. 5, a tournament with $100,000 guaranteed. There is one other tournament on opening day, along with two $100 satellites into the Main Event in the evening.
Speaking of that $800 No-Limit Hold'em Main Event, the biggest event of the series, it kicks off the following day at 11 a.m. This tournament comes with a $500,000 guaranteed prize pool. Players can enter each Day 1 starting flight. There are multiple Day 1 sessions each day leading up to Day 2, which takes place on Aug. 9, with the final table set for Aug. 10 at Champions Club.
In between the start of the Main Event and the finale, there are some other juicy tournaments on the schedule, and not only for the No-Limit Hold'em crowd. Take, for example, the $500 H.O.R.S.E. tournament ($10,000 guaranteed) at 4 p.m. on Aug. 6, or the $300 Big O event ($10,000 guaranteed) at 5 p.m. on Aug. 9. There will also be a $250 Women's No-Limit Hold'em ($10,000 guaranteed) on Aug. 9 and a $250 Senior's No-Limit Hold'em ($10,000 guaranteed) on Aug. 10.
The biggest non-NLH tournament is the $1,100 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship, which promises at least $150,000 in the pot. The first of four Day 1 flights is on Aug. 10, and Day 2 will run on Aug. 13. There will be plenty of opportunities to satellite your way into the tournament on the cheap.
