Jarvis is no stranger to the WSOP Main Event, having played eleven consecutive years and cashing five times with two Day 5 appearances. He's also been present for three final tables, sweating his friend Matt Jarvis to an 8th place finish in 2010, his roommate Griffin Benger to a 7th in 2016 and, the ultimate dream come true, sweating his roommate Greg Merson to a 1st place finish in 2012 for $8.5 Million. To prepare for this event, Jarvis has taken a break from streaming, channeling all his energy into getting ready to play his best. While those activities are very fun, stimulating, and great for connecting with the community, they can also be extremely draining. He’s learned that leading up to big competitions that tapering off training is essential to having maximum reserves for performance. The best way to prepare right before competition is to relax and replenish.

Knowing that the WSOP is a mentally and physically demanding event—the biggest marathon in poker—he's using yoga, tai chi and meditation (inspired by Andrew Lichtenberger and Anthony Gregg) to center himself and hone his focus for a BIG win.

In the first few months of the year, Jarvis binged on training content from BenCB, Nick Petrangelo, Charlie Carrel, Alex Fitzgerald, and Elliot Roe. In his experience, the easiest way to get up to speed with how the game is being played at high levels, is to attune to the minds of the game’s best and have enough time to digest and integrate that info.

This was the approach Jarvis used in 2017 to reach his first WSOP Final Table. He credits a ton of that successful run to watching Pratyush Buddiga’s Tournament Masterclass in the month leading up to the WSOP.

In his video on Reaching Your Full Potential, Jarvis highlighted the power of teaching for boosting retention by almost 90% when compared to just passive listening. This is where his approach of learning from the best, taking time to practice those concepts, and then sharing his insights gained from the first-hand experience with the rest of his community has helped him to evolve his poker brain year over year. It's a more balanced approach than the traditional one of play, play, play, and figure things out along the way, and he’s finding that in his 30s it's an approach that is serving him very well.

Earlier this year, Jarvis cashed his first $5k event at the Fallsview Poker Classic finishing 45th of 602 runners and it was a big boost to his confidence, as he was only all-in and called once in the event and was a significant favorite with queens versus tens and ace-king in his final hand.

Jarvis has already created over 700 free videos on his YouTube channel, which just hit 70,000 subscribers, so this opportunity is another gift to the poker community from this always altruistic pro player and coach. He’s also riding a huge high after seeing his top student Ali Imsirovic win breakout player of the year at the 2018 Global Poker Awards.
