Alec Torelli’s “Hand of the Day”: You Flop Two Pair, and Your Opponent Comes Out Firing

Alec Torelli is a poker professional originally from California, but travels the world full time with his wife, Ambra. Torelli has over $1.5 million in live tournament earnings (including two World Series of Poker final tables and two World Poker Tour final tables) as well as over $500,000 in online tournament earnings. Outside of poker he and his wife manage a million-dollar online business which travels the world with them.

In Torelli’s “Hand of the Day” series he analyzes hands played by him and submitted to him by others. Today he reviews a tournament hand sent in by a reader who flopped huge but faced an undeterred opponent firing away.

Today’s hand involves a hand played by one of my readers, Mario, who found himself in a tricky blind-versus-blind spot in a low buy-in tournament.

Sitting in the big blind, Mario saw the small blind limp, he checked with 85, then flopped bottom two pair. But to Mario’s surprise, his opponent came out betting and playing aggressively, forcing him into a sequence of not-so-easy decisions despite having the luxury of playing from position.

Take a look at the hand and how I talk through Mario’s plays on each postflop street:
