Avila Ortega Says "Good Night"

Level 11 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Carlos Avila Ortega
Carlos Avila Ortega

On a flop of {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}, the stacks of Carlos Avila Ortega and Christophe Suter went in the middle and Avila Ortega was the player at risk for around 50,000. The Spaniard showed {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts} and was in need of help, as Suter had the superior kicker with {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}.

Both the {5-Diamonds} turn and the {3-Spades} river blanked and Avila Ortega left the table with a "buenos noches" - good night in Spanish.

Galindo Lopez and Balaguer Roman Bust Opponents

Level 11 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

A short stack was all in for very few chips out of the big blind and a small side pot emerged between Giovanni Cauteruccio and Josep Maria Galindo Lopez. Both remaining active players checked down the board of {A-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} and Galindo Lopez flashed {A-Clubs}{7-Clubs}. Cauteruccio mucked his cards and the big blind left the table after flashing {9-Spades}{6-Clubs}.

Oriol Balaguer Roman also knocked out an opponent just before the registration of Day 1a closed. His {A-Spades}{2-Spades} ended up cracking {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades} on a board of {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{8-Spades} and the Spaniard moved into the current top five.

Evard Above Average

Level 11 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Francois Evard defended his big blind and a quite big pot emerged to the {Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{7-Spades}{J-Spades} river. Evard bet 10,000 and his opponent, who had previously asked to see the stack of the Swiss before the final community card, then raised to 35,000. Evard called and his opponent tapped the table before rolling over {K-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for a missed straight flush draw.

Evard raked in the pot holding {J-Hearts}{9-Clubs} for trips jacks and joined the bigger stacks on Day 1a.

Last Level to Re-Enter

Level 11 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Josep Maria Galindo Lopez is among the short stacks that may get their chips in soon, but it was Jordi Ribatallada Ruiz who made a move over on table four first. His shove with {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts} was called by a slightly short-stacked opponent, who held {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades}.

The board ran out {J-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{2-Spades}{5-Hearts}{K-Clubs} and Ribatallada Ruiz rivered a straight to save the re-entry expense for now. The current level is the last one to do so, and once the registration closes, the final numbers for Day 1a will be verified. One thing is already for certain, the event is off to a great start.

Podovei Doubles With Quads

Level 10 : 1,000/2,000, 200 ante

On the {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{7-Spades}{4-Diamonds} turn, Gheorghe Podovei checked out of the small blind and Jonathan Bizarro de la Iglesia bet 5,000. This was met by a check-raise to 11,000 and Bizarro de la Iglesia called. Podovei then shoved the {8-Clubs} river and his opponent gave it some thought before asking for a count.

Podovei's all in was for 14,200 and Bizarro de la Iglesia called before immediately sighing. Podovei had turned over {8-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for quads and the {K-Spades}{6-Spades} of the Spaniard were just revealed due to the all in showdown.

Giovanni Cauteruccio and Jon Ignacio Chipongian remain the two biggest stacks at the table.

Abrahamsson Busts One

Level 10 : 1,000/2,000, 200 ante

A short stack moved all in for around 15,000 and Jonas Abrahamsson called from one seat over, while the rest of the table folded. The player at risk showed {9-Spades}{6-Spades} and Abrahamsson had that dominated with {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}. The board came {A-Spades}{3-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{7-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} and the Swede faded the gutshot on the turn to rake in the pot.

Abrahamsson is the third biggest stack on his table behind Flavio Damian Ibanoff and Patrick Lebahr.

Gavalda Shoves into Balaguer Roman

Level 10 : 1,000/2,000, 200 ante

After a raise by Oriol Balaguer Roman, Aleix Ortega Gavalda three-bet to 12,500 in the hijack and Balaguer Roman called. The flop fell {7-Spades}{6-Clubs}{5-Clubs} and Balaguer Roman check-called a continuation bet worth 12,500. On the {J-Hearts} turn, he checked again and Ortega Gavalda pulled the trigger by moving all in for 28,000.

Balaguer Roman counted his stack and took a long time to make a decision, hence the clock was called on him. He then folded {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades} face up and was shown {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades} by his opponent.

Soon after, Adria Alsina Fraile got his short stack of around 26,000 in preflop with {Q-Hearts}{10-Hearts} on the same table and failed to get there versus {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}, the board ran out {A-Spades}{9-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}.
