Day 1a Started
At 6 p.m. local time, poker enthusiasts from near and far will head to one of the hotbeds of poker in Europe, the Casino Barcelona. For more than a decade, some of the biggest poker festivals have taken place right next to the beach and the 2019 888poker LIVE Barcelona Festival will join the list of highly popular events in the Spanish metropolis and major tourist destination.
The festival already kicked off on May 23rd and the flagship event awaits with the €1,100 Main Event. A total of three starting days provide players plenty of opportunities to take a shot at the guaranteed prize pool of €550,000. The registration remains open throughout the first 12 levels of 45 minutes each and until the cards are back in the air for Day 2. All participants receive 30,000 in chips and unlimited re-entries can be purchased during the registration period.

Back in 2018, the festival set new records with more than 20 events and 5,144 entries took part. The 2019 edition provides more than €1,000,000 in guaranteed prize pools and all eyes will be set on the Main Event trophy. Who will follow into the footsteps of Romania's Adrian Costin Constantin, who came out on top of a field of 709 entries?
On the way to victory, Constantin also topped the defending champion back then, as Luigi Shehadeh made back-to-back final tables and narrowly missed out on a second 888poker LIVE Main Event trophy. Whether or not Constantin and Shehadeh will join the action again remains to be seen and you can follow all the action right here on PokerNews!
The €2,200 High Roller is in full swing as the registration has closed at the start of Day 2 and several 888poker ambassadors are in action in the secondary tournament area of Casino Barcelona. Among them are Ana Marquez, Chris Moorman and Vivian Saliba, with several other notables in contention.

With the usual late starting times during the week at Casino Barcelona and 12 levels of 45 minutes scheduled, a long night of poker lies ahead for all players that want to punch their tickets for Day 2 in the first of three starting flights. On top of that, there appears to be a dinner break scheduled also and that brings the end of Day 1a and tomorrow's Day 1b to past 4 a.m. local time.
Right from the start there were already 32 players registered and among them were Raul van Boxtel, Francesco Delfoco, Kevin Stani, Ismael Penalver Del Rio, and David Murillo Parra. The field is expected to grow significantly in the hours to come with all those eliminated in the €2,200 High Roller jumping in for more poker action today.

Christopher Tamuty sat down and immediately chatted up his opponents in English with a smile on the face. He then went on to get involved in a hand with Evgenii Cherniak, who opened to 300 and Tamuty flat-called.
On the flop, Cherniak checked and Tamuty checked back. Cherniak check-called a bet of 500 on the turn and check-folded to a bet of 800 on the river.

Gheorghe Podovei and Milad Oghabian have entered Day 1a of the Main Event after they were eliminated in the €2,200 High Roller. The former joked "never try to bluff a guy that has the nuts in a 2k buy-in." Another very familiar face in poker Spain has also entered and that happens to be 2017 WSOPE Main Event champion Marti Roca de Torres.
