Cordobes Runs into Jacks as Mantovani Also Busts

Level 25 : Blinds 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante
Alexandre Mantovani
Alexandre Mantovani

Jose Cordobes held {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} but had run into the {j-Spades}{j-Hearts} of Victor Caballero.

The board was {q-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and Cordobes was eliminated.

Meanwhile, 888poker Ambassador Alexandre Mantovani had been short for a while and got his remaining chips in from the hijack and got two calls.

After Tom Orpaz forced out the other player on the {3-Clubs}{3-Spades}{j-Hearts} flop, the cards were turned over.

Alexandre Mantovani: {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Tom Orpaz: {k-Hearts}{8-Spades}

The turn {10-Clubs} gave Mantovani a pair, but the river was the {k-Diamonds} giving Orpaz top pair and eliminating the Brazilian opponent.

"I don't understand how I got this deep in the tournament," he said after the hand. "My best hand was queen-jack for the first three hours. But we've still got two [888poker players] in, so we've got a sweat."

Josh Manley
Josh Manley

Josh Manley shoved for 255,000. Ricardo Seabra three-bet all in and Jose Cordobes called putting both players at risk.

"That's not good," said Manley tabling {10-Spades}{10-Hearts} against the {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades} of Seabra and the {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs} of Cordobes.

The {7-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{j-Spades} board saw Cordobes river a set and send both players — including Stream Team member Josh Manley — to the rail.

Alexandre Mantovani raised to 285,000 leaving himself 90,000 behind. Nils Memmi called in the next position and the remaining players all folded.

The flop came {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}{6-Hearts}.

"All in blind?" asked Memmi.

"That's not a good flop for me," replied Mantovani, before putting the rest of his chips in. Memmi pulled a face but still called.

Alexandre Mantovani: {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
Nils Memmi: {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}

Memmi was ahead pre-flop, but Mantovani had flopped a pair. The turn {9-Diamonds} and river {6-Clubs} bricked and Mantovani got off to the best possible start on Day 3.
