Among the household names making a deep run in the event was Uruguay's Fabrizio "DrMiKee" Gonzales, who has proved his game to be on point during this series. Today he was knocked out just eight places before what would've been his fourth final table during this year's Super XL.
With two tables left, the former EPT and WSOPE winner, Adrian "ADRI_ATM" Mateos, held the chip lead at one point. Even though the Spaniard did end up making the final table, he was eliminated after just one hand when his queen-ten suited couldn't connect against a pocket pair of sixes.
The elimination of "poohmanCZ" followed shortly after, before the fast placed play on the final table came to a complete halt. Chips were traded for close to 45 minutes before the eliminations started happening again.
When Swedish player "casinopro888" was finally knocked out shortly after 7 a.m. GMT, the final table caught fire. Within a couple of minutes, Dutchman "ROLDY18" was send packing in 6th place as he/she ran pocket nines into jacks, and a few hands later Argentina's "MechaREcorta" was eliminated when the couldn't hold up in a head-to-head battle against the of "Enigmasility".
The very next hand, "Enigmasility" was gifted by Lady Luck yet again, hitting a lucky jack with ace-jack to end the run of countryman "spider4444".
The overwhelming chip lead became even bigger after disposing of "gusfraba99" in third place. In the final hand, the queen-ten of "Enigmasility" held up against the ten-seven of his opponent "GoMore21" on a ten-high board. "Enigmasility" proved victorious, delivering a massive payday of $262,200.
"GoMore21" shoved the button for 3,824,240 chips, and "Enigmasility" didn't waste a second calling in the big blind in an effort to close out the tournament.
The Belarusian were an overwhelming favorite to end it all right there, and when the board ran out , it was all over. "GoMore21" was awarded $190,500 for the second place finish.
With "Enigmasility" holding an overwhelming chip lead, the Belarusian put the pressure on his two opponents, and Uruguayan "gusfraba99" was the first to crumble. The magnificent journey of "Gusfraba99" ended in third place good for $142,500.
The very next hand "spider4444" was eliminated. "Enigmasility" made it 650,000 to go, and "spider4444" made a massive shove for 8,715,221 total. Enigmasility snapped it off and with 17,5 million of the 28,8 million chips in play, this pot could very well determine the winner of the tournament.
"Enigmasility" was in desperate need of help, and that came in the form of a flop. The turn and the river changed nothing, and "Enigmasility" all of a sudden held a massive chip lead in the Super XL Series Main Event.
Argentinian "MechaREcorta" raised to 400,000 on the button and "Enigmasility" jammed all in from the small blind. "MechaREcorta" made the call, and was at risk of being knocked out having the shorter stack of the two by less than a big blind.
"MechaREcorta" was way out in front, and the flop was as safe as they come for the Argentinian. That all changed on the turn, and all of a sudden "MechaREcorta" was looking for one of the remaining Queens in the deck.
River was the , and "MechaREcorta" was out in 5th, good for $75,000.
Following the elimination of "CasinoPro888". the shortest at the table by far was Dutchman "ROLDY18". He moved in soon after six-handed play began, when finding preflop. They were no match for the of "MechaREcorta", and with the board blanking - - the pot was awarded to the Argentinian.
With just five big blinds left "CasinoPro888" moved all in the very first hand after the break, and "MechaREcorta" snapped it off in the big blind.
Five cards later it was all over for "CasinoPro888", as the board read after the river. The Swede received $45,000 for the effort.
