Day 1b Started

Here Comes Day 1b of ANZPT Sydney

After a night of poker that went into the early hours of the morning, we are back in The Star Poker Room for Day 1b of the ANZPT Sydney Main Event

So far the first stop on the fourth season of the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour has been a huge success with 214 players taking part in the first day of play. That sets this event on target to easily surpass the 393 players who partook in last year's event. There have even been whispers that the number will creep toward the record number of almost 500 from the first season.

Regardless it's sure to be a big day of poker as a huge field of players including a small contingent of international players take to the tables. Yesterday saw the likes of Dan "djk123" Kelly hit the felt and today will see Maria Ho and Team PokerStars Pro Angel Guillen.

It's all set to begin at 12.30 pm local time, so sit back and let the PokerNews Live Reporting Team take you on a journey through eight levels of exciting poker action. As we wait for that action to commence, check out Lynn Gilmartin's tour of Australia's unofficial capital city.

Barrett Booming Early

When we wandered into the Oasis Room we noticed that Josh Barrett was already sitting behind a stack of over 40,000. We asked him how this happened and he let us know. Apparently Barrett held {k-Hearts}{k-} in the big blind and three-bet one opponent who opened from late position. The player called and a {9-}{10-}{j-} flop was dealt - with two hearts. Barrett led out for 900 here and his opponent shipped it in for 20,000. Apparently this baffled Barrett and after plenty of thought he eventually made the call.

Barrett was in trouble though, with his opponent turning over {k-}{q-} for the nuts. They wouldn't stay the nuts for long though as Barrett hit runner-runner hearts to pick up a flush.

Another Early Double

As we walked past Vesk Zmukic's table we noticed he was also sitting behind a 40,000-chip stack. Zmukic let us know that he hit a set holding {q-}{q-}, managing to squeeze full value out of an opponent's {a-}{a-}.
