Day 1b Completed
A bumper field of 246 players took to the felt on Day 1b of the ANZPT Sydney Main Event earlier today. In addition to the 215 who entered on Day 1a, this year’s event saw a total 461 players create a prize pool of $922,000. That number has easily surpassed last year’s field to prove that poker is prospering in the land down under.
By the end of the night approximately 129 players survived the day and it is Tam Truong who is in the best position to make a run at the $226,812 first place prize. Truong had a very successful late half of the day to end up bagging 120,700 in chips. That chip stack means that Truong will start day Day 2 as the fourth biggest chip stack, with Tobin Ryall from Day 1a being the overall chip leader.
Joining Truong at the top of the chip counts for Day 1b was Justin Cohen (110,625), George Marando (104,950), 83-year old Bill Kennedy (102,675) and Sheldon Mayer (99,300).
While the above players may have had a prosperous day at the tables, it wasn’t the same story for Josh Barrett, John Apostolidis, Ali Khalil and Tim English as they each made their way to the rail throughout the day.
Faring better than the above players was the likes of Luke Edwards (85,150), Mario Ljubicic (69,250), Raemin Alexander (55,450) and Vesko Zmukic (48,900). Each of these players will be in with a fighting chance come Day 2.
Don’t rule out Maria Ho and Team PokerStars Pro Angel Guillen either as these two international players will also return tomorrow.
Also surviving the day was three Australian Poker Hall of Fame members, with Leo Boxell (45,700), Gary Benson (36,375) and Mel Judah (19,925) each returning for Day 2 tomorrow.
All in all it will be a total of approximately 213 players who will return for Day 2 action. A full Day 2 seating draw and official end of Day 1b chip counts will be made available as soon as possible.
The PokerNews Live Reporting will again be on the floor of The Star Poker Room tomorrow, providing all the live updates from the penultimate day of the 2012 ANZPT Sydney Main Event.
Here is how some of the big stacks and notable players looked at the end of Day 1b here at the 2012 ANZPT Sydney Main Event. An official end-of-day chip count list will be made available as soon as possible.

The Sydney leg of the ANZPT has been one of the most popular stops on the whole tour since its inception. that is clearly the case here in 2012 as a 461-player field has created a $922,000 prize pool. As you can see below, that's the second largest ANZPT Sydney event ever.

2009 | 493 | $986,000 | Paren Arzoomanian |
2010 | 446 | $892,000 | Angelo Hanataj |

Readers may remember Tam Truong from having built a massive stack on the first day of the 2012 Aussie Millions Main Event. Well its a little bit of deja vu here as Truong is looking like he could end the night as the chip leader here at the 2012 ANZPT Sydney Main Event.
A recent hand saw a player move all in for around 20,000. Truong was directly on the player's left when he instantly re-shoved for his massive stack. The rest of the table got out of the way and the two players turned their hands over.

It was looking like Truong was about to get richer and when the board ran out , it was another nice pot for Truong. As our reporter wrote down the details of the hand, one of the players said, "make sure you write down that players have just been giving this guy chips."

The two prominent international players in the field have spent the majority of their tournament down in the Oasis Room. Team PokerStars Pro Angel Guillen has had a much quieter last couple of levels than when he started, but is still hanging in there. Ho hasn't seemed to gain any momentum yet, but there is still plenty of time.

"You can't fold that, it's only 4,300!" said Mike Ivan at the end of a recent hand.
There was a board showing at this stage and around 10,000 in the pot already. Ivan shoved for his last 4,300 and his opponent was in the tank. As Ivan said, the player ended up folding.
When Ivan said what you read above, he tabled , for a flopped full house. Maybe he didn't get as much value as he hoped, but with that pot, Ivan is still alive and well.
The final level of the night has just commenced. Approximately 147 players currently remain in the 2012 ANZPT Sydney Main Event. Lets see how many of those remain by the time the clock has stopped and the bags are out.
