We arrived on the turn of a board with Daniel Laidlaw and Colin Carpenter involved in a hand. There was already around 2,400 in the pot at this point and both players opted to check.
The dealer flipped over a on the river and it didn't take long for Carpenter to bet 2,100. Laidlaw went deep into the tank here, eventually making the call. When Carpenter turned over , that was enough to send Laidlaw's cards straight into the muck and the handy little pot to Carpenter.
There will be no back-to-back ANZPT Queenstown final tables for Ken Demlakian as he has just been eliminated at the hands of Daniel Levy. We didn't catch the action, but we do know Levy held and had managed to hit a straight to deal the fatal blow to Demlakian.
With a raise in front of him from the cutoff, Dean Schneider three-bet from the button to 1,125. Reigning ANZ Player of the Year, Mishel Anunu was sitting in the small blind and cold four-bet to 2,775. The big blind and cutoff folded, but Schneider quickly called to take a flop of .
Anunu fired out a continuation bet of 2,925 and Schneider made the call as the fell on the turn. Anunu didn’t slow down as he made it 5,400 to go. Schneider again only thought briefly before he announced himself all in. Anunu only had 9,400 behind and went deep into the tank before eventually making a frustrated fold.
“Nice hand, whatever you had,” sighed Anunu.
“Did you fold queens?” asked Schneider.
“Better,” came the reply from Anunu.
Schneider’s stack has ballooned to a massive 61,000 within the first two levels, which is already more than the end-of-day chip leader from yesterday!
"Never bluff a station," said Michael Fadersen after he scooped up a pot holding on a board. Fadersen's opponent, and the so-called "bluffer" was Jackson Zheng.
We arrived at the hand in question on the turn and with both players having committed 600 into a pot of over 1,000. On the river, Zheng checked and Fadersen bet 1,000. Back on Zheng and he raised it up to 3,200. Fadersen took a few moments of thought here before calling and tabling his hand, which was enough to send Zheng's into the muck.
Zheng has had a deep run here in Queenstown in the past, finishing 10th in 2011. Fadersen has had more recent success on the ANZPT, finishing 5th in the 2013 ANZPT Sydney Main Event.
Registration is closed here on Day 1b of the ANZPT Queenstown Main Event. There were 39 total entrants today, with four of those being off-shore online qualifying "no-shows". This means that 35 players were actually at the felt today. The total entrants over the last two days has been 79, so hopefully tomorrow's final Day 1 flight is a big one.
Daniel Laidlaw has just eliminated Daniel Mayoh. It started with Laidlaw opening to 600 from the button. Mayoh, from the big blind, was the only caller. On the flop, Mayoh checked and then called a bet of 700 from Laidlaw. The turn would see Mayoh lead this time as he bet 1,325. Laidlaw called and a completed the board on the river.
Again Mayoh led, betting 2,000. Laidlaw studied his opponent here before raising to 12,000 - enough to put Mayoh all in. Eventually Mayoh made the call, which prompted Laidlaw to table his . Mayoh kind of tapped the table, showed his , mucked his other card face down and made his way out of the tournament area.
