Day 1c Started

Final Chance for Snowfest Success

There is no better place for a poker tournament than Queenstown, New Zealand
There is no better place for a poker tournament than Queenstown, New Zealand

This is it! The third and final chance for players to start making their way towards becoming the next champion of the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour. Today will see a packed SKYCITY Casino poker room filled with players partaking in Day 1c of the ANZPT Queenstown Main Event.

The first Day of this tournament featured a field of 40 players, while there were 39 on Day 1b. Only time will tell how many take to the felt here on Day 1c, but we think it will be a few more than 40.

All the players today will be hoping to chase down Day 1b chip leader Daniel Laidlaw as he bagged up 85,900 last night. However, first and foremost the players will need to worry about surviving with any chips at all.

The action is set to kick off in just a short while from 12.30 p.m. local time and PokerNews will once again be felt-side bringing you all the updates from this Beautiful New Zealand mountain land known as Queenstown. Stay tuned!

Let the Cards Fly

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

There has been a trademark introduction from SKYCITY Casino Manager Andrew Gray and the dealers have been told to deal the cards. With that, Day 1c of the ANZPT Queenstown Main Event has begun!

Plans, Plans, Plans

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

The players have just been informed that like Day 1a and 1b, today will see five 60-minute levels play out. The survivors will then come back tomorrow to either take part in Day 2a, beginning at 12.30 p.m. local time, or on Day 2b, beginning at 4 p.m. local time. The table draw will be done at the completion of tonight's action.

Players at the Felt

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Around 30 players are currently at the tables during these early stages of Day 1c of the ANZPT Queenstown Main Event. Included amongst those players is Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang and PokerStars Team Online Roy "GodlikeRoy" Bhasin. Below is a little look at a few of the notable names currently at the felt. There are also plenty of players registered who have yet to take their seat, including the reigning champ Dave Allan.

More Entries Than we Think

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

APPT President Danny McDonagh has just let the room know that there are more "entries than you think" as there are quite a lot of "no-shows" who won entries online and decided not to make the trek to Queenstown. These entries will stay in the prize pool, so that's good news. The word is that today will be somewhere around 40 entries, which brings the total entries for this year's ANZPT Queenstown to around 120 players. That's a fair few less than last year's record 149 entrants, but still around par for this tournament.

Good Start for Walker

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Keith Walker is off to a nice start here on Day 1c of the APPT Queenstown Main Event. We picked up the action in a multi-way pot with the small blind leading out for 700 on a {4-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} board. Walker was the lone caller and the river fell the {10-Diamonds}. The small blind fired again for 2,000 and Walker thought long and hard before announcing a call.

“Good call,” sighed the player as he motioned his cards into the muck face down. Walker proudly opened {a-Hearts}{3-Spades} for just ace-high to take a nice pot and move up to 28,000 in chips.

Champ Sits Down and Wins an Early One

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

The reigning ANZPT Queenstown champ Dave Allan sat down a little late today, but has already won a little pot. We arrived at the action with a {9-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{6-Clubs}{2-Clubs} board already on the felt and Allan going up against two opponents. Two checks sent the action to Allan on the button and he bet 1,200. He received one call and then tabled his {9-Spades}{10-Hearts}. That was enough to scoop up the pot and move his stack healthily above the start of the day.

Allan defeated a field of 149 players in the 2012 ANZPT Queenstown and will be looking for similar success this year.
