Day 1b Started

Welcome Back to Day 1b of ANZPT Melbourne!

ANZPT Melbourne
ANZPT Melbourne

Welcome back to Melbourne for Day 1b of the 2013 PokerStars.net ANZPT Main Event Repechage, from the Poker Room here at Crown Casino.

Yesterday saw 224 entrants take to the field (including some no-shows), and after 13 entertaining levels, we were left with just 33 runners, and Anthony Hachem leading the way. He amassed a whopping 386,000 in chips, which was nearly double that of his nearest rival.

Because of the Repechage format, we will most likely be seeing the return of a few players who were eliminated yesterday, who’ll be trying to redeem themselves with a solid run into Day 2. Some of these include Dave Allen, Benn Skender, Liam O’Rourke, Tom Grigg and Jarrod Glennon.

Be sure to stay tuned, as the PokerNews live reporting team bring you all the live action, starting in just under an hour’s time at 2:00pm local time.

The Cards are in the Air

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

The first group of players have taken their seats, and after an introduction and rundown of the day’s procedures by the event’s Tournament Director, the cards are up in the air for the commencement of play.

Something a Little Different

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

The ANZPT Repechage will have a slightly different structure compared to the usual ANZPT’s. Players will start with 20,000 in chips and play 13 levels on the Day 1 flights. It will be 30 minutes for the first four levels of Day 1 and then 40 minutes thereafter for the remaining levels.

A Second Chance

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Due to the Repechage format of the tournament, a group of players have returned for a second chance at making it through to Day 2, after being eliminated during yesterday's first Day 1 flight.

The Man has Arrived

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Walking around the tournament floor, we’ve spotted Bosnian Dejan Divkovic seated at Table 45. For those who aren’t aware, Divkovic is currently atop the ANZ Player of the Year leader-board, after taking home the ANZPT title in Perth in February, and narrowly finishing second at ANZPT Sydney just a month later. He is the clear front runner to take home the award, with just three more stops in the current season.

Chrisanthopoulos Doubles Early

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Michael Chrisanthopoulos has just welcomed a double up, early in today’s proceedings.

After two players limped into the pot, the player on the button made a raise. Chrisanthopoulos was on the big blind, and re-raised to 900, before being met with a quick four-bet to 2,700. Without hesitating, Chrisanthopoulos threw out 7,200, triggering an all-in for almost 20,000 from his opponent. He quickly made the call and watched as his opponent confidently tabled {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}. Chrisanthopoulos casually sat back in his chair, and showed his {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}, and welcomed the pot, when the board ran out {6-Spades}{2-Spades}{8-Clubs}{A-Spades}{2-Clubs}.

Anunu Rivered

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

We arrived at the table, with the board showing {7-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{10-Hearts}, and Mishel Anunu checking his option from the big blind. His opponent on the button threw out 1,200, before Anunu raised to 3,000. After a short pause, he made the call, as both players saw the {9-Diamonds} complete the board.

Anunu quickly placed out 5,600, which was snap-called. Anunu sighed, as he flopped over {K-Spades}{9-Spades} for two-pair, and wasn’t to pleased when his opponent tabled {K-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for the rivered-straight.
