After another thirteen levels of play on the second starting day in the PokerStars.net Australia New Zealand Poker Tour Melbourne Repechage Main Event, the chip leader ended up being Daniel Neilson with a whopping 613,000 in chips. A total of 252 players registered for Day 1b creating a 476-player field so far. Only 28 survived, which is surprisingly less then yesterday’s numbers, even though more entered today.

Many players returned for a second chance at taking a stack through but were unsuccessful. These include Dave Allen, Kristian Lunardi, Ricky Kroesen, Tom Grigg, Tony Tartaglia, Amanda De Cesare, Graeme Putt, Jarrod Glennon, Didier Guerin, Liam O’Rourke, Ashley Warner, Andrew Hinrichsen and Peter Aristidou. They’ll all have one more attempt in Day 1c coming up tomorrow.

Some players who didn’t have a good first day, but made up for it today include Michael Kanaan (121,500), Pravin Harji (131,500) and the eventual end of day chip leader, Daniel Neilson. His 613,000 almost doubles that of Day 1a chip leader Anthony Hachem’s monstrous stack of 386,000. Neilson seemed to have it all his way, and never looked back after a big hand during the end of the day propelled him to almost 400,000 in chips.

Tomorrow will see the last of the Day 1 flights take place, with many new faces, as well as returning eliminated players, all vying to make it through to the end of play, and progressing further in the tournament.

Be sure to join us from 12:10 PM local time on Saturday as we bring you all the live coverage from Day 1c of the ANZPT Melbourne Repechage Main Event.

Final Three Hands

Level 13 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

With four minutes left on the clock, the tournament director has advised that there will be three more hands before the end of play.

Chrisanthopolulas Doubles

Level 13 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Two of the short stacks on Table 29 got all their chips in pre-flop, with Michael Chrisanthopolulas in danger with the lesser of the two.

Chrisanthopolulas: {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}
Opponent: {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs}

With the higher kicker, Chrisanthopolulas was able to hold and move up to 102,000 in chips as the board rolled out {8-Spades}{10-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{K-Spades}{5-Hearts}.

Cohen Moves, Doubles

Level 13 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Hugh Cohen was recently moved to a new table, and found himself all-in versing Daniel Neilson.
Neilson had opened the pot with a bet of 8,000 from the cut-off, before Cohen moved all-in for his last 26,000 from the button. Neilson snap-called and both players tabled their cards.

Cohen: {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}
Neilson: {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}

Cohen was in great shape, and received his double when the board ran out {Q-Spades}{4-Hearts}{7-Spades}{5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. Neilson wasn’t to upset though, as he still sits on 490,000 in chips.

Lechich Makes His Run Late

Level 12 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

We arrived at the table to find [Removed:17] and Tino Lechich all-in before the flop. Lechich tabled {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} and was way in front of the {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades} tabled by Yan.

The board ran out {Q-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{3-Spades}{4-Hearts}{4-Spades}, and after a count of the chips, it was determined that Lechich had Yan covered, sending him to the rail just before the last level of play.

Lechich moves up to 140,000 in chips.

De Cesare Misses Royal

Level 12 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Amanda De Cesare’s tournament has been brought to a halt in a big three-way all-in clash. Octavian Voegele was the big stack, covering two all-in opponents, and he made the call of around 30,000 with {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds} to discover he was actually in front of both {A-Spades}{10-Hearts} and De Cesare’s {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}.

“Hold!!!” Voegele laughed knowing he had to fade a lot of cards. The flop was {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}{J-Spades} to give the third player trip tens but De Cesare had flopped a Royal Flush draw. However the {8-Clubs} turn and {5-Diamonds} river saw Voegele lose some change as De Cesare departed the tournament floor.

Birman Busts

Level 11 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Paul Birman’s battle with his short stack is now over. Birman moved all in from middle position for his last 12,300 with {a-Spades}{6-Hearts} and found a call from the player in the small blind who tabled {K-Spades}{10-Spades}. Birman paired up the {8-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{3-Diamonds} flop but the {10-Diamonds} turn card fell in favour of his opponent. The river was the {9-Spades} to see Birman sent to the rail.
