Broom the Bully

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

James Broom is starting to flex his considerable muscle here in the ANZPT Repechage Main Event. He’s laying the trash talking on pretty thick and now has some chips to boot.

We just caught him in an interesting pot against an unknown opponent. Apparently the two had tangled all afternoon as Broom put in another three-bet and his opponent called out of position. The flop landed {2-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{q-Clubs} and action checked to Broom who bet 5,100. His opponent check-raised to 12,000 and Broom thought briefly before making the call, leaving himself a tick over 15,000 behind.

The turn was the {7-Spades} and the action again checked to Broom who went all in. The unknown player went deep into the tank, clearly pained over the decision. After several minutes of thought, Broom started to lay into him with the verbal barrage that we’ve come to know and love. Most of it was inaudible but clearly Broom was getting stuck into his opponent over his play. Graeme Putt eventually called for the clock and the player folded which saw even more verbal ammo fired his way from Broom as he raked in the pot.

The player didn’t say a word, but looked like he was about to explode when the tension was broken by the floor staff breaking the table, much to the disappointment of nearly everyone else at the table who were enjoying the entertainment.

Broom now has a stack of around 50,000 and has been relocated to the direct right of James Obst which could mean we see some more fireworks very soon.

Argyros Doubles

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

We arrived at the table to see Billy “the croc” Argyros open to 3,200 from under the gun, before finding two callers from middle position and the big blind. The flop came {2-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} and the big blind checked. Argyros threw out a continuation bet of 5,500 and was met with a raise shortly after to 15,000, which had him covered. Argyros sat there for a minute before making the call, as both players tabled their cards.

Argyros: {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}
Opponent: {3-Clubs}{3-Spades}

Argryos’ opponent had made a great read, seeing himself in front with the pair of three’s, but the {J-Diamonds} on the turn gave ‘the croc’ even more outs on the river. Eventually there were just to many to dodge, as the {3-Diamonds} completed the board to see Argyros river a flush and win the hand, moving him back up to 40,000 in chips.

A Set?

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Dave Allen opened the pot with a bet to 3,200 and only found the one call from the player in the small blind. Both happily checked the {J-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} flop as the {9-Hearts} landed on the turn. The small blind check-called a bet of 3,100 from Allen, as both slowed down to a stop on the river when the {a-Spades} completed the board.

“I have a seven,” said Allen’s opponent.

“A set?” asked Allen, a little surprised.

“No, a seven,” repeated his opponent, before mucking his cards when Allen showed the {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}.

Double KO for Skender

Level 10 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

The player sitting under the gun moved all in for his last 16,800 in chips. Benn Skender made the call from middle position, as did the player on the button, leaving himself 5,000 behind. The flop came down {a-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{K-Hearts} and Skender checked as his opponent committed the last of his chips. He made the call and all three players tabled their cards.

Skender: {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}
Button: {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}
UTG: {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}

The turn produced the {a-Clubs} having one player drawing dead, and when the {4-Diamonds} completed the board, Skender raked in the pot, as his two opponent made their way out of the room, with the table being broken shortly after.

Six-Figures for Obst

Level 10 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

We arrived at the table to see both James Obst and his opponent commit 9,000 on a {7-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{J-Clubs} flop. Obst called a bet of 12,000, as the {a-Hearts} fell on the turn. This time Obst’s opponent checked and watched as a bet of 16,700 was casually placed into the middle. After a minute of thinking, he made the call, relinquishing the pot to Obst.
