Polk Amongst New Faces

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

We have spotted a few more familiar faces including Canadian pro Xuan Liu, Aussie pro Jonathan Karamalikis and UK pro and recent Aussie Millions final tablist James Rann.

Also in the field is none other than Doug 'WCGRider' Polk. Not only is Polk considered one of the best high stakes cash game players in the world, he also has almost US$4.5 million in live tournament results on his record.

It's not often one of the most revered poker players in the world plays an ANZPT, so we will certainly be keeping an eye on him.

Gill Hurting Early

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

Oliver GIll has just wandered over to the media desk to let us know that he's having "one of those days."

"I should be out, but I still have 25 big blinds," Gill said.

Gill told us that he lost several pots where he had to fold against opponents who clearly had better hands. One of those hands saw him with {a-Hearts}{9-Hearts} in which he flopped top pair and a flush draw and then had to fold to heat on the turn, with his opponent apparently having a set of twos. Gill also apparently ran jacks into aces in a weird spot among a few other losing hands.

Boxell in the Field

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

Australian Poker hall of Famer Leo Boxell is one of a few familiar faces around the poker room today. He is best known for winning the APPT Main Event in Melbourne in 2011.

Boxell is a regular on the ANZPT but he has been unable to make the final table of a main event since the 2011 event on the Gold Coast.

We caught up with Boxell recently in a heads-up pot on the flop of {Q-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}, Boxell checked from the small blind and his opponent checked back from the button. The turn fell the {3-Clubs} and this time Boxell led out with a bet of 1,300. After little thought his opponent threw away his cards and Boxell raked in the pot.

Douaglin Looking for More Run Good

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

Joel Douaglin is looking to keep his run good going after finishing this year’s Aussie Millions Main Event in third place for over $600,000.

We recently watched Douaglin having position on an opponent on the flop of {8-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{K-Hearts} with both players checking.

The turn was the {K-Diamonds} and Douaglin’s opponent bet out 1,000. Douaglin quickly made the call and the river fell the {10-Spades}.

After a check Douaglin threw out a bet of 2,000 and it was enough for his opponent to fold and Douaglin scooped in the pot.

His stack has now grown to a little over 25,000.

Gill's Day Done

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

Oliver Gill has been eliminated.

He got his chips in on a {8-Hearts}{j-Spades}{9-Spades} flop. Apparently there was over 4,000 already in the middle from preflop action when one player led for 2,000 before Gill moved all in for 4,600 with {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}. The next player to act re-shoved and the player who led folded {q-}{j-}.

Gill, with his open-ended straight draw and over card, was up against {7-Spades}{6-Spades} for a flush draw and straight draw.

The turn was a brick {3-Diamonds}, but the {10-Spades} on the river gave Gill's opponent the flush and enough to send Gill home.

More For Douaglin

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

Joel Douaglin is at it again as he continues to grow his stack in these early stages.

We picked up the action on the turn, with Douaglin on the button and faced with a 550 bet on the board of {2-Spades}{5-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{K-Clubs}. He raised his opponent to 1,200 who made a quick call. The river paired the board with the {2-Hearts} and the action was checked to Douaglin. He put out a bet of 1,500 and after a small tank his opponent made a sigh and called. Douaglin questioned the dealer, “he called?” and with a nod from the dealer he slammed pocket Kings on the table and said “full house.”

Douaglin’s stack has now grown to over 30,000.
