A Tale Of Two Champions

Mansour Matloubi and Johnny Chan
Mansour Matloubi and Johnny Chan
An interesting point of note is that we have two World Champions in our field today, and they are now sitting side by side. Of course every poker fan knows the name Johnny Chan -- the 1987 and 1988 World Champion. Chan followed those wins with a 2nd place finish in 1989.

A year later it would be Mansour Matloubi, a name a little less familiar to most, who took down poker's biggest title with his win in the 1990 WSOP Main Event. Matloubi was born in Iran but now resides in London, England. He was the first non-American to win the big dance, and continues to promote the expansion of the game of poker as it evolves in the Asian regions.
