Benton Knocked Down

On the last hand before the break, Aaron Benton lost a very large portion of his stack. On the flop of {J-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Clubs}, Benton deliberated about calling a 20,000-chip bet from an opponent. After a couple minutes in the tank, Benton just called.

The turn brought the {A-Diamonds} and Benton checked. His opponent counted his stack out to see how much he had as the rest of the tournament went on break. He then bet a small 8,000 compared to the pot and his last bet. Benton moved all in and he player insta-called.

Benton held the {J-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} and his opponent the {A-Clubs}{5-Clubs}. The river was the {5-Spades} and after a final count of the stacks, Benton was left with just 16,000 chips.

Break Time

It's time for the first 10-minute break of the day, which may actually be slightly longer to allow time for a color up.

Le Good

Jukka Juvonen raised to 3,000, Yong Hyun Yoo and Jessica Ngu called, and Nam Le joined in from the big blind. Action checked around on the {j-Clubs}{4-Spades}{3-Hearts} flop. Then after the {5-Diamonds} on the turn, Le took a 6,700-chip stab at the pot. Juvonen folded, and Yoo called. Ngu went to flick her cards to the dealer, stopped, almost flicked, stopped, almost flicked, stopped, finally flicked. The river card was the {5-Spades}, and Le checked. Yoo checked behind. Nam turned up {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for ace-high. Yoo first turned over an ace and then paused for a good ten seconds. We were prepared for a nice slowroll, but Yoo showed the {6-Diamonds} for a missed straight draw, and Le took the pot. He's sitting with around 40,000 at the moment. Ngu grabbed her head in frustration when she saw ace-high win the hand.

A Chip and a(n Empty) Chair

Sam Weir a no-show
Sam Weir a no-show

Two players today must really have believed the adage, "all you need to win is a chip and a chair." But that's really only true if you're sitting in said chair. Sam Weir finished Day 1 with 11,200, but he never arrived this morning and has finally been blinded out. Laura Trujillo's empty chair is down to 1,500 chips.

Steicke Sends Scott Home

Andrew Scott is no more
Andrew Scott is no more

A player under the gun raised to 2,500. In the next spot was Oscar Teran and he called. David Steicke called in the hijack seat and then Andrew Scott called from the big blind.

The four players took a flop of {5-Spades}{4-Spades}{4-Diamonds} and Scott checked. The preflop raiser checked as well before Teran fired 3,500. Steicke raised to 10,500 and then action fell on Scott. He tanked for a bit and then moved all in for 24,200. The preflop raiser folded and then Teran folded as well. Steicke made the call.

Steicke held the {10-Spades}{10-Hearts} and was ahead of Scott who held the {6-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}. The turn was the {A-Diamonds} and then the river was the {7-Hearts}. Scott couldn't find the help he needed and was sent to the rail as Steicke moved up to 115,000 chips.

Here Comes Rubie

Brendon Rubie called an opponent's all-in shove with the {A-Spades}{J-Clubs} and was right as he was up against the other player's {A-Hearts}{6-Hearts}. The board ran out {J-Spades}{10-Spades}{5-Hearts}{3-Spades}{J-Hearts} and Rubie earned the elimination. That pot put Rubie up to 146,000 chips.

Ngu Thanks

Jessica Ngu has hung on to her short stack for two days, and it's going to take a super cooler to pry it away from her. On a board of {k-Spades}{8-Clubs}{7-Spades}{3-Clubs}, Jukka Juvonen checked, and Ngu bet 7,500. Juvonen swiftly moved all in, putting Ngu to the test for her last 33,000. She looked miserable, as she does every time she's faced with a bet. She debated in agony for four minutes, grimaced at the {k-Hearts} a few times, and then tossed her cards away and flopped her head down on the table. Juvonen kept up his disinterested facade as dragged in the pot.

Trinh Goes Up, Wu Goes Down

Three players saw a flop of {A-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{3-Spades}. Those three were Darren Judges, Raymond Wu and Lam Van Trinh. Judges was first up and checked to the Team PokerStars Asia pro. Wu fired 4,200 and Trinh, the PokerStars online qualifier, called. Judges folded.

The turn added the {2-Hearts} to the board. Wu checked. Trinh fired 7,000 and Wu quickly mucked his hand, dropping back to 90,000 chips. Trinh bumped himself up to 65,000.
