When we first arrived at the Paradise Casino this morning there was a big PLO cash game taking place. This is when we first noticed the 2012 Aussie Millions runner-up finisher Kenneth Wong. Apparently he had been there all night. We then saw him stroll into Day 1b of the APPT Seoul Main Event on no sleep.
Although he's almost definitely tired, his poker game still seems sharp as we watched him take down a recent hand. It all started when an early position player opened it up to 350. One player made the call before Wong also came along for the ride from the button.
The saw the original aggressor lead for 800. The other player got out of the way while Wong made the call as the hit the turn. Wong's opponent then continued his betting, throwing out 1,600. This is when Wong popped it to 3,700.
"How much you got behind," the player asked as Wong moved his arm to reveal his stack. It was apparently too much for the player as he threw his cards into the muck, sending the pot to Wong.
Michael Mariakis is now sitting behind a pretty nice stack early, with a recent hand seeing him move up to around 30,000. It started when Yasuhiro Waki limped from early position. A middle position player then made it 1,650. Mariakis threw in enough chips from the big blind and when Waki got out of way, a flop was dealt.
Mariakis check-called a bet of 2,100 from his opponent and then both players checked the turn. The on the river saw Mariakis again check and this time his opponent bet 7,000. Mariakis took his head phones out of his ears and pondered the call. Eventually he flicked in 7,000 and turned over his . The pocket-queens were enough to send the players cards into the muck as Mariakis took down the nice pot.
Masa Kagawa over-limped from the cutoff seat after the hijack came in for the minimum. The two blinds were also in action as the dealer ran the flop. Action checked to Kagawa in last position and he bet 650. Everyone folded and Kagawa won the pot.
Kagawa was as low as 2,700 in chips, but has since fought back to double that without going to a showdown.
After a player in middle position limped in for 200 and the cutoff seat raised to 600, Masa Kagawa three-bet jammed all in for 3,700. The two blinds, the limper and the original preflop raiser all folded and Kagawa won the pot to add some chips to his short stack.
Team PokerStars Pro Angel Guillen stepped away from his table for a second, but when he saw the dealer pitching out the next hand, he made sure to get back and grab his cards just in time. Guillen was under the gun and raised to 500. Although everyone folded, Guillen showed the table having almost missed out a chance on aces.
We have recently noticed that Shaq Lin has taken his seat in the 2012 APPT Seoul Main Event. Readers may recognize that name from winning the 2011 Asian Player of the Year award. With that title, Lin joined Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang as an APOTY alumni.
Lin will be looking to have as impressive a year in 2012 as he did in 2011. We recently saw him take down a hand with a board showing . There was around 3,000 in the pot at this point and Lin fired out 2,200. His opponent tanked and then folded as Lin took down the pot.
When we came to Team PokerStars Pro Angel Guillen's table, cards had flown into the muck from every direction as the action was on Guillen in the cutoff seat. He opened it up to 500 and was then three-bet to 1,200 from the player on the button.
When Guillen made the call, the flop was dealt and both players checked as the landed on the turn. This time Guillen would lead, throwing out 1,700. Guillen's opponent made the call and the completed the board on the river.
Guillen continued his betting here on the river, sending a bet of 5,500 onto the felt. Guillen's opponent contemplated the call before letting his cards go.
