Mariakis Gives One Up

Level 6 : 300/600, 75 ante

On the {Q-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{3-Spades} flop, one player checked before Michael Mariakis bet 3,100. The next player raised to 6,5000 and that knocked the first player out of the pot. Mariakis made the call.

The {7-Spades} landed on the turn and both remaining players checked to see the {8-Spades} pair the board on the river. After Mariakis checked, his opponent bet 8,000. Mariakis gave it up and his opponent won the pot.

Kazuki Out The Door

When we came to Kazuki Ikeuchi's table there was a flop showing {q-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} and Ikeuchi was in a hand with one player. A bunch of bets from both players meant that Ikeuchi was all in. He needed plenty of help to survive too, with his {a-Spades}{k-Clubs} far behind the {k-Spades}{q-Spades} of his opponent.

When the turn and river bricked, it was all over for Ikeuchi as he goes home just a short while before the last break of the evening.

Hale Wins Huge Hand To Bust Guillen and Kim

Team PokerStars' Guillen eliminated
Team PokerStars' Guillen eliminated

Action folded to one of the largest stack in the room, Jhana Hale, in the cutoff seat and he raised to 1,300. Team PokerStars Pro Angel Guillen flat-called on the button and then action fell on Dong Kyu Kim in the small blind. Kim reraised all in for 14,850 and the big blind folded. Hale thought for a minute and then made the call of Kim's shove. Guillen had other things in mind though and reraised all in for 47,500.

Hale was now faced with a big decision for around half of his chips. He had already invested 14,850 into the hand and was faced with calling another 32,650. After a couple minutes of thought, Hale made the call to have both Guillen and Kim on the ropes. Here's what we saw.

Hale: {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
Guillen: {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}
Kim: {A-Spades}{9-Clubs}

The flop came down {A-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and both Guillen and Kim smacked their ace. Unfortunately, the ace was accompanied by a ten and Hale held the lead with a set. The turn was the {9-Diamonds} and that left Guillen drawing dead while Kim could still hit the case ace to stay alive.

Guillen was already up and out of his seat when the {5-Clubs} hit the river to send Kim out the door behind him. Hale collected the pot — and a massive one at that — to move his stack to a commanding lead with 150,000 in chips.

Hibuse called the extra little bit from the big blind and the board ran out {10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}.

Wong Finally Loses One

It seemed like Kenneth Wong was constantly raking in pots. His stack certainly has been on the up all day. That was until a recent hand we caught from the flop.

Flop: {5-Spades}{8-Hearts}{a-Hearts}

The pot alread had a few thousand in there and Wong check-called a bet of 1,500 from his one opponent. The {5-Diamonds} on the turn saw Wong check-call again, this time a bet of 2,200. On the {9-Diamonds} river, Wong flicked out 12,000 which was about how much his opponent had left in his stack. The opponent moved all in and Wong made the call, costing him just a few hundred more chips.

When Wong's opponent turned over {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}, Wong sent his cards into the muck and took what seems to be the first substantial hit to his stack.

Scott Climbs Over 30K

On the {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{4-Spades} board, Andrew Scott bet 1,500 and his opponent called. The river landed with the {2-Hearts} and Scott bet 4,000. After a couple of minutes in the tank, the player called.

Scott showed the {J-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} for trip jacks and his opponent mucked. Scott is now over 30,000 in chips.

Shaq Out

Shaq Lin - eliminated on Day 1b
Shaq Lin - eliminated on Day 1b

Shaq Lin never gathered any momentum today and has now been eliminated. His last hand started when he shoved for 3,700 after two limpers put in a call. Both of those players made the call and then checked it down as the board was dealt out {9-Spades}{5-Clubs}{5-Spades}{2-Spades}{7-Clubs}.

Lin was already on his feet as he turned over {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}. One of the limpers tabled {j-Spades}{10-Spades} for a turned flush, more than enough to send Lin to the rail. And with that, it was goodbye to the 2011 Asia Player of the Year.
