Mariakis Very Active

It seems every time we wander past Michael Mariakis' table that he is deep in a hand. Recently we came to his table with a board showing {4-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{9-Clubs} and with an opponent all in. Mariakis looked pained as he pondered the call.

At this point Mariakis went into the tank and after another two minutes, he called the clock on himself. A tournament director came to the table and gave Mariakis one minute to act. Eventually Mariakis timed out and revealed an {a-Diamonds} as he sent his cards into the muck.

The player who was all in had been very stoic up to this point, but now got to his feet, said "thankyou!" and revealed {q-Spades}{q-Clubs} for a worse hand than Mariakis' top pair.

Mariakis Out-Kicked

Michael Mariakis raised to 1,700 and an opponent three-bet to 4,600 in position on him. Action folded back to Mariakis and he made the call to see the {5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop. Mariakis checked and his opponent checked.

The turn was the {Q-Spades} and, again, both players checked. The river then completed the board with the {J-Hearts} and both players checked once more.

Mariakis tabled the {A-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and his opponent the {A-Spades}{10-Diamonds}. Mariakis lost the pot and dropped back to 78,000 in chips.

Respect The Good Players

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

The action was opened by Michael Mariakis in the cutoff seat and Sixiao Li called from the big blind. Both players then checked down the board as it ran out {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{4-Spades}{2-Spades}{3-Spades}.

Li turned over her {k-Spades}{6-Hearts}, with king-high enough to send Mariakis' cards into the muck. A player who didn't partake in the hand then quipped, "why don't you bet? For me you bet every street and just keep bombing it, but not against the lady?"

"She's a good player. Got to respect the good players," said Mariakis in a gentlemanly fashion.

Last Break of the Day

Level 6 : 300/600, 75 ante

The remaining players — all 70 or so of them — are on their last 10-minute break of the day. When they return, the players will go through two more 60-minute levels before bagging and tagging for the night.

Wong Shoves

Level 6 : 300/600, 75 ante

After betting the {A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop for 2,400 and getting raised by an opponent to 7,300, Kenneth Wong reraised all in for approximately 28,000. His opponent gave it up almost immediately and Wong won the pot to push himself back to over 35,000 in chips.
