Edgar Out in 19th

Just prior to the break we lost Chris Edgar in 19th place. He recalled to us that his final hand came when he shoved his last 105,000 with pocket nines following an open from Alistair Duff. The table folded around but Duff wasn’t going anywhere with his pocket kings.

The flop came {10-}{10-}{10-} to leave Edgar virtually dead and when the turn and river bricked out, he was sent to the rail.

Kanaan Dangerous

Michael Kanaan is starting to look dangerous after winning a big pot and taking a chunk from our chip leader Amit Varma.

We picked up the action on the turn with the board showing {j-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}. Nick Wong checked the small blind to Alistair Duff who bet 22,500 from the big blind. Kanaan, Varma and Wong all called as the river fell a repeat {Q-Diamonds}.

This time Wong and Duff checked to Kanaan who tossed out 47,000. Varma quickly called as Wong and Duff stepped aside.

Kanaan showed {q-Spades}{k-Clubs} for trip queens which was too good as he raked in the healthy pot.

Equal 20th-Place Finishers

Day 1c chip leader Sang Yong Lee has played his last hand. After Bobo Chen opened to 16,000, Lee moved all in for a total of 75,000. He then stood up and started jogging in place while Chen tanked. It was a surprisingly short tank for Chen, who called with {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}, a hand that dominated Lee's {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}. The board rolled out blanks for both players, {8-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{4-Spades}{5-Clubs}{10-Spades}, allowing Chen's ace-high to claim the pot and knock out Lee.

On one of the other tables, Alvin Cheam and Sameer Rattonsey found themselves flipping for stacks with {a-Spades}{k-Clubs} (Cheam) against {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds} (Rattonsey). This round went to the pocket queens, {q-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{5-Hearts}, to knock Cheam out in equal 20th for a PHP 197,500 score.

Martins Out

Antonio Martins - 22nd place
Antonio Martins - 22nd place

Antonio Martins finished up Day 1b as the overall chip leader, but his tournament has now come to an end. We didn't catch all the details of the hand, but Martins opponent was Bobb Zhang. Martins was out of his chair and Zhang had {a-}{k-} out in front of him as the dealer raked in the pot and started shuffling the cards.

For his 22nd-place finish, Martins heads home with PHP 175,500.
