Hello everyone! We are coming to you from the beautiful, sunny Philippines, where Day 1a is just about to get underway at the Asia Pacific Poker Tour stop in Cebu!
Last year, 246 players entered the tournament, and at the end of six days of poker, Hoang Anh Do walked away the victor. He took home 5,927,000 PHP (Philippine Pesos) for his efforts, as well as a beautiful APPT trophy.
Play is scheduled to get started in just under an hour, and we expect a good field today. This event is sponsored by Pokerstars.net, so we are expecting to see Pokerstars Team Asia well represented here. In fact, one of the team members, Vivian Im, won this event two years ago!
Today is the first of two Day 1’s here in Cebu, and a champion will be crowned in five days. We here at Pokernews will be bringing you all the action throughout the entire tournament, so don’t go anywhere!

Borg Bluffs Some Off

David Borg, who finished runner up in a $1,500 buy-in event at the World Series of Poker last year, is here in the building today, but unfortunately, he's off to a rough start.
We didn't catch the action until the river, but here's what we saw. There was about 5,500 in the middle, and the board had been completed 
. Borg was up against one opponent, and it was checked over to Borg, who fired out a bet of 2,600.
His opponent got the chips ready for the call, and Borg looked eager to table his cards. Not deterred by this, his opponent made the call, and Borg showed 
for a pair of nines. His opponent rolled over 
for top pair, and it was good enough to scoop up the pot.
After that hand, Borg is down to 13,500 from his original starting stack of 20,000.

Kelly Slips Early

Dan "djk123" Kelly is another player who took his seat a few minutes late, and as to be expected, he got right into the action. We caught up with Kelly in the middle of a three way pot on a board that read 
. The first opponent fired out 600, and Kelly was the lone caller. The river brought the , and Kelly once again called a bet, this time of 1,100.
His opponent tabled 
for a turned flush, and Kelly quickly let his hand go. Kelly took the hit, dropping him to 15,000, which is still plenty to work with this early on in the tournament.

Zalac Takes the Lead

We arrived at the table to find Ivan Zalac opening to 300 from the button, before being met with a raise to 1,500 from the player on the big blind. Zalac then bumped it up to 2,900 which was called, as both players saw the flop come down

The player on the big blind thought for a minute, before throwing out a bet 3,250, which was snap-called by Zalac, as the 
fell on the turn. Zalac would again snap-call a bet of 4,000 and then a bet of 5,000 as the 
completed the board.
His opponent tabled

Tran Takes An Early Hit

Trung Tran may be the hottest player coming into this tournament, as he just took down the APT Main Event at the Philippines in Manila ten days ago, to the tune of $124,000. Well Tran is looking to make it back-to-back big tournament titles here in Cebu, but he's heading south early.
We caught up with the action on the turn, with the board showing
