Tran Early Big Stack Despite Small Loss

Level 3 : 150/300, 0 ante

We caught up with Trung Tran in the middle of a three way pot on the flop, which read {9-Clubs}{k-Spades}{j-Clubs}. It was checked around, and the turn brought the {9-Hearts}. After the first opponent checked, Tran fired out 1,050, and was only called by the next player to act. Both players checked when the river completed the flush draw, the {7-Clubs}, and Tran could not beat the {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades} tabled by his opponent.

Despite taking that hit, Tran is one of our chip leaders, as he has more then doubled his starting stack.

Tran with the Goods

Level 3 : 150/300, 0 ante

Four players saw the flop get dealt out {7-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}. Trung Tran checked from the small blind, as did two players in middle positions, before the player on the button threw out a bet of 1,400 in chips. The option was back on Tran, who raised to 3,100 forcing quick folds back around to the player on the button. He sat motionless for a minute, before placing in a re-raise to 6,200 which Tran called.

The {10-Spades} came on the turn, and again Tran checked. His opponent counted the chips in his stack, before gathering 7,100, and throwing it into the pot. Tran looked over to see how much was left behind, before grabbing several chips totalling 27,000, and placing them in the middle. The bet had his opponent covered, and after a moment, he made the call.

Tran: {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}
Opponent: {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}

Tran was in front with a set of sevens, as his opponent was drawing to any king or queen to improve his hand. The {3-Clubs} completed the board, as Tran eliminated a player from the tournament, moving up to 68,000 in chips.

Rubianes On Right Side of Cooler

Level 3 : 150/300, 0 ante
Vincent Rubianes
Vincent Rubianes

There was about 4,000 in the middle when we walked up to the table to see Vincent Rubianes heads up on a flop that read {j-Spades}{a-Spades}{2-Diamonds}. Rubianes fired 2,125 from the big blind, and his opponent raised it up to 5,125. Rubianes made the call after 20 seconds of deliberation, and the turn brought the {6-Diamonds}.

Rubianes checked, and his opponent broke down his chips, before stacking them all together, and sliding them in. Rubianes snap called, and when the cards were flipped, we saw that we had a cooler on our hands.

Rubianes: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}
Opponent: {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}

Neither player was going anywhere after that flop, but unfortunately for Rubianes's opponent, he was drawing dead. The meaningless river was the {7-Diamonds}, and after that hand, Rubianes is up to 35,000.

Tan Eliminates Jin

Level 3 : 150/300, 0 ante

We recently caught the action on a board reading {10-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{2-Spades} between 2012 APT Asian Series Cebu Main Event champion Tai Tan and 2012 Macau Poker Cup Red Dragon Event champion Nicky Tao Jin.

Tan checked from middle position, before Jin led out 1,750. Tan called as both players saw the {2-Spades} complete the board. Again, Tan checked, and was met with an all-in for 6,925 from Jin. He thought for a moment before making the call.

Jin stood up from his chair and tabled {J-Spades}{K-Hearts} for a bluff, as Tan showed {K-Spades}{10-Spades} for top pair. The hand was enough to send one champion out the door as another moves up to 40,000 in chips.

Rubianes Gives Some Back

Level 3 : 150/300, 0 ante

Shortly after virtually doubling up in a cooler hand, Vincent Rubianes lost a few of those chips, though he is still looking very good at the moment. Action folded around to the player in the cutoff, and he made it 675 to go. Rubianes was the lone caller in the big blind, and the two saw a flop of {5-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}.

Rubianes check called a bet of 1,125 from his opponent, and the turn brought the {k-Hearts}. Both players checked, and Rubianes checked a third time when the {q-Hearts} came on the river. His opponent picked up a single blue T1,000 chip, and eventually tossed it into the middle. Rubianes did the same for the call, and mucked his hand when he saw his opponent's {8-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for two pair.

After that pot, Rubianes is down to 30,000.

Quads for Wang

Level 4 : 150/300, 25 ante

We arrived at the table to see the player under the gun open to 700, before being met with a re-raise to 2,700 from an opponent to his immediate left. The table folded around to Ted Wang on the small blind, who decided to re-raise to 6,600 in chips. The original raiser didn’t hesitate, moving all in for his last 8,500, forcing a quick fold from the player in between, as Wang made the call.

Wang: {K-Spades}{K-Spades}
Opponent: {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}

It looked like Wang was going to double up his opponent, but not until the dealer spread out the flop {3-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}, giving him the lead. The {5-Clubs} was no help for his opponent, who needed an ace to steal the pot. The {K-Hearts} completed the board, only bringing more disappointment to the all in player, who graciously stood up from his chair, shook Wang’s hand and walked out of the tournament area.

Wang now has 36,000 in chips midway through the fourth level of the day.
