Drinan Happy to Lose a Pot

Level 23 : 9,000/18,000, 2,000 ante

"YES! YES!" shouted Connor Drinan after he saw Zhou Zhou's winning {5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for a flush at showdown.

He'd raised to 40,000 from the button and Zhou called from the big blind. Both players checked the {6-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop before Zhou check-called 70,000 on the {q-Clubs} turn. The river was the {7-Diamonds} and Drinan tank checked behind.

He was so happy he didn't go for value on the river and his yelling was in delight.

Ka Cheong Wong Eliminated in 11th Place (HKD$410,000), Misses Top APOY Spot

Level 23 : 9,000/18,000, 2,000 ante
Ka Cheong Wong - 11th
Ka Cheong Wong - 11th

Ka Cheong Wong has been looking for a spot for the last hour or so and when he shoved with {a-Clubs}{k-Spades} he thought this might be it.

Wong was playing in a hand with Sergey Lebedev. There was some action before Wong shoved all in for his remaining 320000 and Lebedev was quick to call.

Lebedev had {10-Spades}{10-Clubs} and was racing with Wong. There was a little bit more than 11th place on the line in this race. Wong is currently #2 in the Asia Player of the Year race. He trails the leader by 20 points and he needed a top 10 finish in this event to take the top spot.

The board didn't seem to care much about it when it gave Wong his pair, but gave Lebedev a set and left Wong with a tough task. The turn, {q-Clubs}, and the river, {6-Spades}, didn't help Wong and he was eliminated. Just shy of the 10th spot and a place at the top of the APOY leaderboard.

Play Has Slowed

Level 23 : 9,000/18,000, 2,000 ante

After losing three players within a few minutes to bring the field down to 11 players, there have been very few large pots. There have been a few shoves, but no calls.

Zhou Zhou managed to double up, and is still working his short stack. He has shoved over Nan Tu's opening raises on two occasions in the past 20 minutes.

Ka Cheong Wong is taking his time making decisions. On his latest shove, the action folded to him in the small blind and he tanked for about two minutes before finally shoving all in. Xixiang Luo was a bit faster in making his decision. After asking for a count and checking his hand, he folded. There will be a break once there are nine players left as the final nine will redraw.

Drinan Wins Big Hand As Players go on a Break

Level 22 : 7,000/14,000, 2,000 ante

Connor Drinan and Patrick Mahoney have headed off for a break with the rest of the players in very different moods.

They had made it to the river in a hand where the board read {3-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{7-Hearts}. Mahoney led out for 122,000 from the big blind and called after Drinan raised to 300,000. "Nuts," said Drinan and opened {10-Spades}{10-Hearts} for top full house.
