Wong Leads Heading into Final Day of APPT Manilla Main Event ₱20 Million Guaranteed

Level 23 : 12,000/24,000, 5,000 ante
Sebastian Wong
Sebastian Wong

There were 404 players that returned for the start of Day 2 of the APPT Manilla Main Event ₱20 Million Guaranteed, with only 41 advancing to the third and final day of the tournament. One of which is Singapore's Sebastian Wong who bagged an impressive 2,365,000 and is the biggest stack headed into Day 3, where he will have his eyes set on the ₱12,970,000 first place prize and a PSPC Platinum Pass worth $30,000 (USD).

Right behind Wong on the leaderboard are Kean Wie Tan and Samuel Welbourne who both pulled in a healthy 2,055,000. Welbourne constantly gained traction all day without really having any downswings and Tan found himself grinding his stack most of the day until later on when he found himself on the better end of a few hands during the last level of the night.

Some other players that ended the night near the top of the food chain include Kenny Shih (2,040,000), Daero Lee (1,990,000), Filipino Lester Edoc (1,800,000), and China's Zebin Sun (1,775,000).

Other notable players that found a bag at the end of the day include China's Bin Zhang (1,335,000), Norbert Koh (1,295,000), Japan's Yuka Asaka (1,105,000), Yvo Molin (1,080,000), Day 1a chip leader Yuan Chao Li (500,000), and Tianyuan Tang (145,000).

The money bubble popped at the end of Level 18 when Thananat Therdtskoonrat was rivered by Qiang Xi, who hit trip sixes. All the remaining players were ecstatic as everyone was now in the money and guaranteed at least ₱118,000.

A group of well-known runners that made the money but did not clinch a Day 3 birth are Korea's Seung Soo Jeon (67th Place - ₱157,000), Sparrow Cheung (72nd Place - ₱157,000), Filipino Florencio Campomanes (78th Place - ₱157,000), James Mitchell (79th Place - ₱157,000), and PokerStars Team Pro Celina Lin (128th Place - ₱124,000).

Day 3 will start tomorrow at 13:00 local time, with 60-minute levels and a 15-minute break after every two levels of play. The tournament will play down until someone is awarded the trophy and is crowned the APPT Manila Main Event Champion.

The PokerNews team will be here to bring you full coverage of the Main Event and the High Roller tomorrow.

Teruhisa Aoyama opened to 44,000 from under the gun, a player called from early position, a player called from middle position and Sebastian Wong three-bet to 194,000 from the big blind.

Only the opponent in early position made the call and the flop came down {k-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{j-Spades}. Wong moved all in for more than enough to cover his opponents remaining 550,000 and his opponent made the call, players turned over their hands.

Wong tabled {a-Hearts}{a-Spades} for aces up and his opponent turned over {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} for a straight draw. The {2-Hearts} on the turn and {6-Hearts} on the river changed nothing as Wong's bullets held on for the chip lead pot late on Day 2.

Teruhisa Aoyama opened from under the gun, En Cheng Hung three-bet to 105,000 from early position, Aoyama made the call and the dealer fanned out a flop of {q-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{6-Spades}.

Action checked to Hung who bet 84,000, Aoyama check-called the bet and the {10-Spades} fell on the turn. Action again checked to Hung who pushed in a bet of 250,000, Aoyama took a few moments before check-raising all in for more than enough to cover Hung.

Hung thought for several minutes, running out a clock that was called on him before finally throwing his cards in the muck and giving up the pot to Aoyama.

The player under the gun opened to 23,000. Sebastian Wong Wei Quan called from one seat over. The blinds called as well.

The flop was {10-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}. The small blind bet 46,000. The big blind and the player under the gun folded. Quan raised to 128,000. His opponent took a few seconds of reflection: ''I've never seen you bluff, I've seen you get really lucky on the flop.''

After a couple of more minutes, he gave up his hand.

''You go all in, I'm calling,'' told him Quan while raking in the pot.

Xiu Sends Therdtskoonrat Home as the Bubble Boy

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Thananat Therdtskoonrat

Qiang Xiu opened to 15,000 from early position and Thananat Therdtskoonrat called his remaining 15,000 all in from late position, the players turned over their hands with Therdtskoonrat at risk of being the bubble.

Qiang Xiu: {q-Hearts}{6-Spades}
Thananat Therdtskoonrat: {a-Spades}{8-Diamonds}

The flop of {9-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{8-Hearts} came down with something for both players as Therdtskoonrat paired his eight and Xiu picked up a pair of sixes with a flush draw.

The {4-Spades} on the turn was of no help to anyone and Therdtskoonrat's pair of eights was still ahead. The dealer flipped over the {6-Diamonds} on the river and the crowd that had gathered around the table went electric as Xiu popped the bubble with his rivered trip sixes.

Therdtskoonray was sent home as the bubble boy and all player remaining are now guaranteed at least a min-cash of ₱118,000.
