After 60 players advanced from Day 1a of the ₱33,000 APPT National, today sees players' last chance to punch their ticket to Day 2 on 30th July.

Players will receive 30,000 chips and have 13 levels of play. Each level is 40 minutes long and there will be 10-minute breaks after every three levels.

Yesterday 236 players joined the field and by the end of the day, it was Singapore's Alex Lee who came out on top with 329,500. Close behind him was Hsien Yuan Yang from Taiwan with 312,500.

These were the only two players over 300,000 chips and they will be the ones to beat once cards are in the air at 17:00 local time.

Clinkscales Back for Day 1b

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante
Rex Clinkscales
Rex Clinkscales

Rex Clinkscales was in the field yesterday for Day 1a, but failed to find a bag after getting rivered out of the tournament. After getting {a-Clubs}{j-Spades} in against the {10-Clubs}{3-Clubs} of an opponent on a {j-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{3-Hearts} board, the turn was a brick but the river {10-Hearts} gave his opponent two pair, eliminating Clinkscales.

He's now back in the fray for Day 1b with a fresh stack of 30,000. He is hoping to add another APPT Manila title to the Kickoff title he won at last year's festival, as well as the Manila Megastack title he won back in March.

He started his day fairly aggressive, by winning a pot preflop with a five-bet. A player opened to 300 from under-the-gun, he three-bet to 1,000 chips from the very next position, and everybody folded back to the initial raiser, who proceed with a four-bet for 2,000 chips. Clinkscales wasn't done, as he continued with a five-bet for 5,800, that earned him the pot after his opponent's fold.

A Small One for Osabe

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

Ryoji Osabe was on the small blind and in a flop of {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{9-Spades} he check-called a bet for 1,100 chips.

The two players checked both the {8-Spades} on the turn, and the {q-Hearts} on the river, with Osabe opening {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds} to take the pot.

Talamayan Folds a Big Hand

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

At least this is what he said in a hand versus Alexis Lim. Joseph Talamayan bet 500 on a flop showing {6-Clubs}{8-Spades}{2-Spades} and Lim check-called.

The {3-Clubs} fell on the turn, and Talamayan bet 1,500 this time, after his opponent's check, who raised this time to 3,500. Talamayan looked like he had a tough decision to make, and he thought about it for almost 3 minutes before another player on the table called the clock.

The floor manager started counting and Talamayan asked his opponent if he has a set. He didn't get a response, and folded his hand saying that he had aces. He only showed the {a-Spades} though.

Good Turn, Better River for Wang

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

The player in the cutoff opened to 300 and the small blind called. Qi Wang made it 1,800 from the big blind and the cutoff was the only caller.

The flop was {4-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and Wang bet 3,000. His opponent called.

The turn was the {8-Clubs} and Wang bet 3,500. Again, his opponent called.

The river was the {8-Diamonds} and Wang bet 13,500. His opponent called for a third time but was shown {6-Diamonds}{8-Spades} for backdoor trips and Wang took down the pot.
