Galvez Gets a Shove Through; Garberg Chips Up

Level 22 : Blinds 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Quoc Huy Phan raised to 40,000 and then folded the {a-Spades} when Renniel Galvez jammed, the latter of which had been very tight as of lately.

Over on the other table, Markus Garberg raised and called a three-bet to 125,000 by Quoc Dinh Nguyen from one seat over. The {10-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{3-Spades} flop was checked by Garberg and he then called a bet worth 90,000.

Both opted to check down the {7-Clubs} turn and the {4-Clubs} river paired the board. Garberg made it 240,000 to go and Nguyen folded.

Garberg Catches Kapoor Bluffing; Phan Folds to Soyza

Level 22 : Blinds 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Markus Garberg
Markus Garberg

With two five-handed tables, a soft hand for hand play has been implemented by the tournament staff and there wasn't a ton of action in the first few hands.

That changed when Markus Garberg on the button clashed with Akshay Kapoor in the big blind. Kapoor three-bet to 140,000 and was called to then bet the {a-Spades}{9-Hearts}{4-Hearts} flop for 100,000, Garberg called. On the {3-Clubs} turn, Kapoor made it 225,000 to go and Garberg stuck around.

Kapoor immediately pushed all-in after the {q-Diamonds} river.

Garberg had 400,000 behind and used at least two time bank extensions before he called. Kapoor flipped over {7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for a bluff and Garberg doubled with the {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} for the top pair.

Over on the other table, Quoc Huy Phan raised to 40,000 and folded when Michael Soyza three-bet. "If you had a pair you are fucked, I had tens," Soyza mentioned in table chat. Phan said he was thinking about jamming but couldn't at this stage.

Sofia Lovgren-Fullmer Eliminated in 11th Place ($7,821)

Level 22 : Blinds 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Sofia Lovgren-Fullmer
Sofia Lovgren-Fullmer

A heads-up pot was brewing over on table two after Sofia Lovgren-Fullmer had raised to 45,000 from under the gun and earned three callers in Akshay Kapoor on the button, Nam Hyung Kim in the small blind and Alexander Puchalski in the big blind.

On the {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{7-Clubs} flop, the bet of Lovgren-Fullmer was called only by Kapoor and the {9-Spades} turn was checked by both players.

Lovgren-Fullmer then jammed the {5-Clubs} river and Kapoor asked for an exact count. The all-in was deemed to be for 677,000, by far more than the pot, and Kapoor made the call without using a time bank extension thereafter.

Lovgren-Fullmer tabled the {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for a bluff gone wrong as Kapoor exposed {a-Clubs}{j-Spades} and then shared the good news with Zurvan Tumboli before recalling the action to his countryman.

For Lovgren-Fullmer, the run ended just shy of the final table as she earned $7,821 for the efforts.

Lovgren-Fullmer Below a Million

Level 22 : Blinds 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Akshay Kapoor defended out of the blinds against a raise by Sofia Lovgren-Fullmer and they checked the {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} flop.

After the {9-Clubs} turn, Kapoor check-called a bet worth 40,000 and the {7-Spades} river went check, check.

Kapoor announced a king and Lovgren-Fullmer replied "I have a king too" before she was shown the {k-Diamonds}{q-Spades} on the other side of the table. Lovgren-Fullmer glanced at her cards and sent them to the muck.

For the first time in the last two hours, she has dropped below one million in chips.

Puchalski Extracts Value From Nguyen

Level 22 : Blinds 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Quoc Dinh Nguyen raised to 40,000 and Alexander Puchalski flat-called out of the big blind.

Both players opted to check the {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop and Puchalski then bet the {3-Diamonds} turn for 50,000. On the {2-Spades} river, Puchalski bet another 150,000 and Nguyen called to get shown the {a-Spades}{q-Spades}. Nguyen flashed an ace and mucked the other card to drop below 30 big blinds.

Updated Counts of the Final 11 Players

Level 22 : Blinds 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Quoc Huy Phan raised to 40,000 and then folded when chip leader Yu-Chung Chang piled in a random amount of T-25,000 chips for more than 300,000.

Over on the other table, Nam Hyung Kim won a showdown pot when his {k-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} beat the {k-Clubs}{9-Clubs} Quoc Dinh Nguyen with the latter having missed a flush draw on a paired jack-high board.

Day two will conclude once the tournament is down to the final nine players and thus just two eliminations away.

Zdravko Duvnjak Eliminated in 12th Place ($6,782)

Zdravko Duvnjak
Zdravko Duvnjak

Akshay Kapoor opened the action with a raise to 32,000 and then instantly called the shove by Zdravko Duvnjak from one seat over for just shy of 200,000.

Zdravko Duvnjak: {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}
Akshay Kapoor: {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}

The {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}{5-Hearts} flop brought no help and a railbird from the Philippines predicted a deuce next, which is what came with the {2-Clubs} turn. A three was requested by the same person but they were also happy about the {4-Diamonds} river as Renniel Galvez on the other table had locked up a pay jump.

Duvnjak was eliminated as he had to settle for 12th place, which comes with a payday of $6,782.

Nam Hyung Kim raised to 35,000 and Akshay Kapoor then three-bet to 100,000 out of the big blind. Kim mulled it over for a few seconds and pushed all-in as Kapoor snap-called.

Akshay Kapoor: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

"Zurvan, I have kings versus queens," Kapoor announced to Zurvan Tumboli who was on the final three players in the Flipout Side Event up on the feature stage. His countryman came down to witness the showdown and saw the board run out {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{j-Hearts}{9-Spades} to award a double for 489,000 to Kapoor.

Back(house) to the Grind for Soyza

Level 21 : Blinds 8,000/16,000, 15,000 ante
Chris Backhouse
Chris Backhouse

Chris Backhouse defended against Michael Soyza and check-called a bet on the {10-Hearts}{3-Spades}{2-Diamonds} flop. On the {4-Spades} turn, Backhouse checked again and Soyza bet 110,000. The Brit then jammed all-in and Soyza asked for the bet to be pulled in to determine how much more the shove was for.

That happened to be 349,000 on top and Soyza used one time bank extension before making the call.

Chris Backhouse: {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}
Michael Soyza: {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

"Oh wow ..." Soyza sighed with a dry smile on the face as Backhouse had locked up the double already, with the {j-Hearts} river becoming a formality.

"Back to the grind," the Malaysian mentioned as he dropped below a million in chips and was surpassed by Backhouse.
