Masaaki Takes a Hit

Facing a raise to 3,000 from Norman Grande, Japan's Masaaki Kagawa raises to 17,000 -- just enough to cover Grande. Grande makes the call.

Grande: {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}
Masaaki: {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}

WIth a board of {Q-Hearts}{10-Spades}{2-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{J-Clubs} Masaaki hits a set on the river, but it also gives Grande a straight and he doubles up to 36,000.

The Format for Today

The morning briefing
The morning briefing
There are 72 players remaining and play will continue until we reach the final table.

Tournament Director Danny McDonagh started proceedings today by thanking his hard-working team for their performance so far. He took time out to thank the local dealers, who are doing a fantastic job considering this is their first major tournament. The poker scene in the Philippines is huge, with several 15 - 20 table rooms running seven days a week. Their technical skills are sound, however Danny acknowledged that their hand rate is not up to international standard, and as a result he was winding the clock back one level to compensate -- which was received by a joyous round of applause from the players.

Shuffle up and deal!
