Powell Doubles

After raising preflop, Julian Powell checked the flop and turn before moving all in on the river on a board of {9-Clubs}{2-Spades}{4-Hearts}{10-Spades}{2-Clubs}. His opponent tanked before making the call, but Powell flipped {9-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for top two pair to recover some chips and move back to 24,000.

Timex Doubles Through Levy

Mike "Timex" McDonald

Mike "Timex" McDonald opened with a raise from the button but Grant Levy defended from the big blind with a reraise. McDonald moved the last of his short stack into the middle and Levy made the call.

Levy: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
McDonald: {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}

The board fell {Q-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} and McDonald spikes a king on the river to take down the pot and double through. McDonald now sits with 26,000 with Levy still in good shape with over 60,000.

Powell Crippled

From the button, Julian Powell opened the pot for 2,200. His opponent raised all in from the big blind for about 20,000. Powell tanked before making the call and tabling {A-Hearts} {K-Spades}. His opponent showed {10-Hearts} {10-Diamonds}

"Not another race!" exclaimed Powell in dismay. He must have been heartened to flop top pair with {K-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} {8-Diamonds}, but his opponent went runner-runner with {7-Spades} {9-Diamonds} to make a ten-high straight.

Powell now has just 11,000 remaining chips.

Dunst Eliminates Another

Tony Dunst has become a one-man wrecking crew. He raised to 2,100 preflop only to see the player in the big blind reraise all in. Dunst asked for a count. Upon being informed that the total was 7,900, he made the call and tabled {10-Hearts} {10-Diamonds}. The big blind had {A-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} and couldn't connect with an 8-high board.

Dunst now has about 60,000 in chips.

After the player in the small blind moved all in for 7,200, Joon Hee Ya decided to gamble and made the call with {Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs} in the big blind. He found himself racing as the small blind flipped {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}.

The board fell {3-Spades}{8-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{8-Diamonds} and the small blind doubles as Ya falls to 46,000 chips.

Dodds Brutally Eliminated

Joel Dodds eliminated.
Joel Dodds eliminated.
Michael Pedley raised to 2,600 preflop. From the small blind, Joel "StrongPlay" Dodds made the strong play and reraised to 5,200. Pedley called.

The flop was a fairly harmless {3-Hearts} {9-Spades} {10-Spades}. Dodds let out for 6,000 before Pedley moved all in. Dodds snap-called and tabled {K-Hearts} {K-Spades}. Pedley could only muster {J-Spades} {J-Hearts}. The turn {4-Hearts} missed them both, but the river {j-Clubs} was a cruel dagger through Dodds' tournament heart. It made a set for Pedley and sent Dodds to the rail.

After the hand, Dodds wandered over to Grant Levy's table.

"You still in?" Levy asked.

"Does it look like I'm still in?" Dodds replied. He then proceeded to relate his bad beat story to Levy. He didn't even offer Dodds a dollar to hear it.

Pedley is up to 68,000.

Tran on the Rise

Kenny Tran is in business.
Kenny Tran is in business.
Kenny Tran has been hanging around 20,000 for most of the afternoon. He finally cracked the 30,000-mark in a recent hand against Tom Guise. Tran moved all in for about 10,000 after the flop came down {A-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {Q-Clubs}. Guise, holding {K-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}, must have figured he could rely on his club-and-set draw if Tran held an ace. It turned out that Tran did indeed hold an ace -- he had {A-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} for top two pair. The turn {A-Spades} took all of the drama out the hand by making a full house for Tran. The river {9-Hearts} completed the board.

Guise dropped to 31,000, while Tran is up to 32,000.
