Nelson Looks for Another Final Table

Lee Nelson gets loose
Lee Nelson gets loose
We welcome Lee "Final Table" Nelson to the 2009 Aussie Millions for the first time as he takes his seat on the feature table.

Lee Nelson is well-known in this neck of the woods, with wins in the 2006 Aussie Millions Main Event and 2005 Speed Poker Championships under his belt, and numerous other final tables and cash results.

Nelson finds himself seated on an interesting table that was recently joined by Tony Bloom, who was the 2004 Aussie Millions Champion. The table also features Ryan Hurst, Martin Harvey and Oliver Gill.

Plenty of Action on Table 30

Marsha Waggoner
Marsha Waggoner
Hold'em:

Joe Humunicki is out. He went to war with {9-Clubs} {9-Spades} and ran into Marsha Waggoner's {Q-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} and never improved.

The next hand at the same table, Billy "The Croc" Argyros raised preflop and was called by Nick Georgoulas and Kalan Shuttlewood. The flop was all babies, {2-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} {4-Spades}, bringing a bet from The Croc and two calls. On the turn {K-Clubs}, Croc bet again, only to see Georgoulas raise. After Shuttlewood folded, Croc tanked for about a minute before he too folded.

"You're a f*cking genius!" marveled Georgoulas. He showed {4-Clubs} {4-Diamonds} to the table for the flopped full house and is up to 9,400 in the counts.

Limit Hold'em Lends Itself to Some Ugly Losses

Hold'em:

Rainer Quel will not be adding another 2009 Aussie Millions final table to his resume in this event. He wound up all in with {A-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} against Charles Sanderson's {4-Clubs} {8-Clubs} and lost in brutal fashion, {2-Diamonds} {A-Hearts} {7-Spades} {8-Hearts} {8-Spades}.

Grant Levy also took a brutal hold'em beat a few tables over. He wound up in a pot against Peter Aristidou that was capped preflop and capped again on the {8-?} {7-?} {2-?} flop. Levy called a single bet when the turn came an {A-?} and another bet on the river {8-?}. He had made a full house with pocket sevens, but Aristidou turned over pocket eights for four of a kind. Levy has only 2,000 chips left.

Bloom Out-Muscles Gill

Tony Bloom
Tony Bloom
Omaha Hi/Lo:

With the board reading {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{4-Spades} Oliver Gill led out with a bet from the big blind before Tony Bloom put in the raise to 800. Gill sighed and said, "Well I guess it's no good" before flashing {A-Hearts}{10-Clubs} and tossing his cards into the muck.

Bloom is up to 5,300 chips.

The Nature of the Beast

Like each of the previous two fixed-limit events, today's H.O.R.S.E. tournament is making for extremely slow going. With two split-pot games in the mix, and two other stud games (never a bastion of action), it takes a while for chips to change hands in any significant way. Some players stay far, far away from H.O.R.S.E. events for that very reason.

Grant Levy Eliminated

Grant Levy - eliminated
Grant Levy - eliminated
Grant Levy's new shirt didn't help him today. Down to his last 1,500, he was eliminated during the razz round by Ross Boatman who showed a 6-5 low. Levy had 10-A-6-2 showing on his board but was unable to improve to a hand that beat Boatman.
