Sachinidis Doubles

Catching the action on the flop of {Q-Spades}{6-Spades}{10-Hearts} Jim Sachinidis led out for a bet of 1,500 and was put all in by John Overbeek. Sachinidis made the call, tabling {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} to be ahead of Overbeek's {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}.

The turn fell the {8-Hearts} and river the {10-Clubs} to see Sachinidis double to 9,200 chips as Overbeek still sits with around 35,000.

Field Trimmed Back

Josh "JJProdigy" Field did lots of work in the early levels to build his chip stack up to a respectable level, but it's all come undone. He opened for 550 chips before the button player three-bet to 1,625. That folded the action back to Field, who put in the third raise to 4,550. The button player wasn't going to back down from this game of "chicken," raising all in for 13,600 total.

Field went into the tank. He clearly had a big hand, but the raises from the button suggested that the button had a monster. Field finally opted for the call, tabling {J-Clubs} {J-Hearts}. He was unhappy to see the button show {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts}. The flop was all spades, {K-Spades} {4-Spades} {3-Spades}, but neither player had a spade in his hand. Field's opponent dragged the pot after the turn came {7-Diamonds} and the river {Q-Clubs} gave him a completely unnecessary set.

Field is down to 16,000 chips and will now have to start the rebuilding process.

Khouiss Collects Huge Pot

Khouiss flops two-outer
Khouiss flops two-outer
With it folding round to Sam Khouiss in middle position, he opened with a raise for 700. The action was on Yvo Molin and he raised it to 2,500 total.

Khouiss made the call and checked the flop of {Q-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} to Molin, who led out for 5,000. Khouis ummed and ahhed before raising to 10,000, which was immediately followed with an all-in reraise from Molin. Khouiss quickly made the call and the cards were tabled.

Molin: {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}
Khouiss: {J-Hearts}{J-Clubs}

The turn landed the {9-Spades} giving Molin an additional four outs, but with the {A-Diamonds} landing on the river Molin hit the rail as Khouiss raked in the pot sending him to over 60,000 in chips.

Balaban Takes a Hit

Balaban down to 8,200
Balaban down to 8,200
Tim Balaban's hopes of claiming this year's Aussie Millions have taken a bit of a hit after he folded a pot to Martin Comer.

Each player contributed 5,000 to the pot on the turn, and at the river the board read {7-Spades}{8-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{8-Clubs}. Balaban obviously didn't like the river, and checked to Comer, who bet out 12,000 chips, enough to set his opponent all in.

Balaban proceeded to open-muck {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades} for two pair, on a board that had significant set, straight and flush possibilities. He's now down to 8,200, while Comer would have to be happy with his start, up to 34,500.

Saab at it Again

If you were to give David Saab credit for only one thing, it's that he makes for good copy. He opened from the button for 700, then called a reraise by the player in the big blind to 1,700. "You can't bully me," Saab told the big blind. "I'm David Saab!"

On a flop of {6-Spades} {7-Hearts} {9-Spades}, the big blind led out for 1,500. Saab's response was to move all in for 15,000 chips. "Where are you going now?" he asked.

The big blind asked for a count and then took off his sunglasses to think things over. After about a minute he folded his hand. Saab flashed the {A-Diamonds}.

A Lucky Chop for Some

A battled out chop for these two
A battled out chop for these two
Con Angelakis opened from middle position to 750, and with the action back on Crown regular Dean Francis he bumped it to 1,750 with Angelakis making the call.

The flop fell down {Q-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{8-Spades} and Angelakis led out for 2,000. Francis then moved all in for his last 8,425, and after some thought and time, Angelakis made the call.

Angelakis: {9-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Francis: {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}

Francis was in great shape to double until the {9-Spades} landed on the turn, and with Francis standing up ready to vacate the tournament floor, he would be brought back down when the {J-Spades} landed on the river filling a straight on the board.

Easy Aces for Bergeron

Craig "HU4ROLLZ" Bergeron opened to 575 under the gun and found only one caller on the button. On a flop of {7-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{4-Spades} Bergeron led for 775 and his opponent made the call.

Both players checked the {6-Diamonds} on the turn and when the {3-Spades} landed on the river Bergeron led strongly with a bet of 2,275 and his opponent made the call.

"HU4ROLLZ" turned over {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}, and as his opponent mucked, Bergeron raked in the pot sending him to over 27,000 in chips.

Movers and Shakers

The chip counts are constantly evolving as we get deeper into Day 1a. The latest round shows that Julian Powell is heading into turbulent waters with just 5,400 chips in his stack. He's faring better than Paul Rochford, who busted out of the tournament.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, Shane Moran has made some impressive headway to double the starting stack.

Khouiss Getting Old

Sam Khouiss opened to 600 an found a caller in Graeme "KiwiG" Putt. On a board reading {A-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} Khouiss led out for 1,500, which forced a fold from Putt.

"One of them's a diamond," as Khouiss tabled {K-Spades}{J-Spades}, "Colorblind . . . that's what happens when you get old!" Khouiss is now sitting on 55,000 chips.

Ace High Good for The Peppermint Hippo

Khalil fans love the hero calls
Khalil fans love the hero calls
In a recent hand at Table 15, the under-the-gun player opened to 450 with both Josh "JJProdigy" Field in late position and Ali "The Peppermint Hippo" Khalil from the big blind making the call.

The three players checked a {6-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} flop, and moved to the {2-Hearts} turn. Field fired out 1,050, with Khalil check-calling and the under-the-gun player folding.

On the river {6-Diamonds} Field again fired 1,550 and Khalil once again check-called. Field sheepishly tabled {k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} for king high, and Khalil revealed the river hero call, when he showed down {a-Hearts}{7-Clubs} for ace high.

Khalil is over 45,000.
