Trading Chips

It's still passive between Kyle McMurphy and Barry Woods in this first game of the final, with chips basically being traded between them, but Woods seems to have the upper hand so far.

McMurphy check-called Woods' bet of 725 on a flop of {5-Hearts}{10-Spades}{8-Clubs}, then both players checked down the rest of the board which ran out {4-Hearts}, {3-Clubs}.

Woods turned up {9-Spades}{5-Spades} but was no good against McMurphy's {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}.

Wood regained those chips a short time later. He limped in from the button preflop and McMurphy checked his option from the big blind to see a flop of {2-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Hearts}, which they both checked.

McMurphy then check-called Woods' bet of 375 on the turn of the {5-Clubs} before check-folding after Woods fired out 750 on the river {5-Clubs}.

Woods Takes One Down

On a flop that read {8-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{8-Spades}, Kyle McMurphy checked to Barry Woods who led out for 325. McMurphy called, then checked when the dealer produced the {j-Clubs} on the turn.

Woods fired out 625, McMurphy called then check-called Woods' third shell of 1,050 on the river of the {4-Spades}.

Murphy turned up {j-Hearts}{6-Spades} for two pair and McMurphy mucked his hand.

The Final Match

Play in the Australian Heads Up Championship final is about to begin between Barry Woods and Kyle McMurphy on the feature table here in Studio 3.

We have just been advised that Martin Gudvangen came out on top in the third place playoff over Darren Wood.

The starting bank for the final is 20,000 in chips. The levels are still at 20 minutes with the following levels:

Level 1: 100/200
Level 2: 150/300
Level 3: 200/400
Level 4: 300/600
Level 5: 400/800
Level 6: 600/1,200

... and we are underway!

It Had to End Eventually ...

Barry Woods: 2 def. Martin Gudvangen: 1

It was only a matter of time before this match would end, although Gudvangen did manage to double up again before eventually being crippled and busted by Woods.

Gudvangen got his money in light with {6-Hearts}{3-Hearts} against Woods' {a-Spades}{10-Hearts}, but Gudvangen hit two pair on the board of {3-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} to double up.

A couple of hands later, Woods crippled Gudvangen down to just 1,100 in chips when the money went all in on a flop of {8-Spades}{j-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}; Woods tabled {q-Clubs}{10-Hearts} but had to dodge the straight draw outs against the {k-Clubs}{10-Spades} of Gudvangen.

The turn of the {j-Spades} and the river {7-Clubs} weren't any of those outs that Gudvangen was looking for.

Woods looked down at {J-Spades}{2-Diamonds} the next hand and put the 1,100 all in (which Gudvangen was committing no matter what, as he was leaning over the table ready to drop it into the middle).

Gudvangen tabled {5-Spades}{3-Diamonds} and the board - incredibly - ran out {4-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}. Thus endeth Gudvangen's godlike run.

Woods advances to the final while Gudvangen will be playing the loser of the Darren Woods/Kyle McMurphy semi-final in the third place playoff.

Yet Another Double Up

Barry Woods: 1 vs. Martin Gudvangen: 1

Gudvangen has managed to win another flip, getting his money into the middle with {a-Spades}{5-Diamonds} and hitting on the board of {9-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{6-Spades}{k-Diamonds} against Woods' {3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}.

The mind boggles.

This is Beyond Ridiculous ...

Darren Woods: 1 vs. Kyle McMurphy: 1

On a board that read {5-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{k-Spades}, McMurphy checked to Woods who led out for 700. McMurphy then check-raised to 1,600, Woods moved all in and McMurphy snap-called.

Woods: {k-Hearts}{q-Spades}
McMurphy: {k-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

The river {j-Clubs} saw Woods hold and double up again. Due to the final 36 players in the Main Event now coming up to Studio 3, their semi-final match has now been moved downstairs to the main poker room.

Why Won't They Bust?

Barry Woods: 1 vs. Martin Gudvangen: 1

Gudvangen just can't seem to get Woods, no matter how hard he tries.

Gudvangen called Woods's all in bet with {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs} and found himself dominated by Wood's {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}.

Woods improved to a set on the flop of {q-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}, but there was a slim chance when the {2-Clubs} fell on the turn, giving Gudvangen the straight draw.

No such luck with the river {a-Spades} and we still don't have our first finalist!

McMurphy Doubles Up

Darren Woods: 1 vs. Kyle McMurphy: 1

McMurphy raised before the flop to 450, only to see Woods reraise to 1,375. McMurphy snap-shoved for 7,525 and Woods snap-called.

McMurphy: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}
Woods: {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}

The board ran out {2-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Spades}{5-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} to see McMurphy double through.

Gudvangen Gets Unlucky

Barry Woods: 1 vs. Martin Gudvangen: 1

Woods moved his last 3,975 into the middle on a flop of {5-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}; Gudvangen snap-called and the cards were revealed:

Gudvangen: {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Woods: {q-Clubs}{3-Spades}

The turn of the {k-Clubs} improved neither hand, but Gudvangen's supporters groaned from above when the {q-Spades} spiked on the river to see Woods double up and keep the match alive.
