Topakas Gone Fishing

It appears that Steve Topakas doesn't have a great opinion on the quality of the field here today...

"I posted on my facebook today, 'I'm going fishing, be back later, haha!'" laughed Topakas to the amusement of his table mates.

Boxell Back In Front

After capping the action preflop, Leo Boxell was happy to just call down three barrels of betting from his opponent on a board of {k-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{A-Spades}{10-Diamonds}.

His opponent turned over an impressive {A-Hearts}{K-Spades} for top two pair, but Boxell had caught good on the river with his {J-Spades}{J-Hearts} to make a straight and take it down.

"I'm back in front now!" chuckled Boxell, referring to his stack of 5,075 which is back in front of where he started the day.

Missing the Boat

Or, 'the bet' in this case.

Barny Boatman opened the pot with a raise and Leo Boxell was the lone caller.

The flop came down {J-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{10-Clubs} and Boatman fired a continuation bet that was called by Boxell. Both players checked when the {3-Hearts} fell on the turn and the river brought the {K-Clubs}, which gave Boatman -- holding {Q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} -- the second nuts.

Boatman checked the river, in an apparent attempt to get Boxell to take a stab at it, but Boxell checked behind, tabling a pocket pair of nines.

"Ahh, why didn't you bet?!" Boatman asked, as he raked in the small pot.

Tran Stumbles

Trung Tran has taken a hit, after raising preflop from late position, and firing bets on the flop and turn, before checking down the river against a player in the small blind.

The board read {J-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and Tran could only show a pair of sixes as his opponent took it down with {A-?}{10-?} for a pair of tens. Tran slips to 3,300.

Come and Get It

Steve Topakas has recently been moved to Martin Comer's table and it didn't take long for the two of them to mix it up.

Comer led out with a bet on a {10-Clubs}{9-Spades}{5-Clubs} board that was called by three players, including Topakas.

The turn brought the {A-Spades} and Comer fired again, shaking one player, but Topakas and a player in the five seat tagged along.

The river brought the {5-Hearts} and Comer quickly fired again. Seat five called, and when the action reached Topakas, Comer warned, "Take it easy! Don't do anything too hasty!"

Topakas took the bait and put in a raise. Comer fired right back, three-betting to 300. At this, both seat five and Topakas surrendered, giving the pot to Comer.

"Are you getting this? Watch this bad beat," joked Comer in the direction of one of our field reporters.

Comer tabled {9-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} for a full house.

"He (Topakas) tried to bluff me!" said Comer as he raked in the pot.

Benson Gets Busy

Gary Benson arrived a little while ago and finds himself seated at an interesting table with Richard Holmes, George Cotaidis, Karib Karib and fellow Australian Poker Hall of Fame member Mel Judah.

Benson hasn't wasted any time as he has already accumulated a healthy stack of black chips amongst his 8,000 chips.

Topakas and Comer At It Again

Steve Topakas led out with a bet on a {9-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}. Martin Comer then fired back with a raise and Topakas called.

Topakas then led out with a bet when the {5-Clubs} fell on the turn and Comer called. The {A-Hearts} was the last card to fall and Topakas, holding {9-Clubs}{2-Clubs} bet again. Comer made the call holding {K-Spades}{Q-Spades} -- just king high -- and Topakas collected the pot.

"Why call with king high?" asked Topakas. "You're putting to much pressure on his head," he said to Comer's masseuse.

"No, you are!" Comer quipped back.

A Big Year Ahead For This Young Lady

One of the big names in today's field is none other than Annette "Annette_15" Obrestad.

The online sensation has already made a name for herself with huge results in Europe before she was even of legal age to play in the US.

However she has now turned 21, and it's going to be an exciting 2010 as she will be able to play at the WSOP for the very first time.

Last year in this very event, she said it was her first time ever playing a Limit Holdem tournament, so we're sure she's learnt a few tricks and will be one to watch this afternoon and over the next two weeks.
