Marsters No More

Level 7 : 300/600, 50 ante

Tim "TurnRiva" Marsters finds himself on the rail after his short stack could survive no more.

Marsters had his tournament life on the line holding {9-Clubs}{5-Clubs}. Not the worst possible hand, but when the one opponent who calls you is holding {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} it is bleak days indeed.

The board ran out {q-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{9-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}. The nine on the flop wasn't enough for Marsters, who's only consolation is that he has the ability to have another crack at making it to day two by re-entering tomorrow.

Wong Exits

Level 7 : 300/600, 50 ante

Facing a raise from the small blind to 1,600, Damien Wong instantly moved all in for his last 9,325 from the big blind with his opponent making the call.

Wong: {9-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}
Opponent: {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}

The board rolled out {K-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{J-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} to end Wong's tournament prematurely.

The Banker and the Poker Player

Level 7 : 300/600, 50 ante

One is the youngest ever player to win a World Series of Poker Europe bracelet. The other is a powerbroker and one of the biggest investment bankers in Australia.

Annette Obrestad sits with Michael Kroger two seats to her left and it is very unlikely that Obrestad is aware of her opponents life outside of table 46.

While thousands of miles, a different profession and decades come between them, the two players actually have alot in common. They both must make decisions with millions of dollars in the balance. They both deal with people trying to make money from their decisions. They both must deal with high pressure situations.

But none of that matters anyway, becuase while they are here in Melbourne for the Aussie Millions they are both simply, opponents.

With the board showing {5-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{8-Clubs} Obrestad lead out for 2,200. Kroger made it 5,000 and forced Obrestad into the tank for close to two minutes.

When Obrestad eventually made the fold, Kroger took a second look at his cards and calmly folded.

Investment Banker or Poker Player. It's all the same at the end of the day- A desperate attempt at bringing home large amounts of cold hard cash.

Queens for Dalessandri

Level 8 : 400/800, 75 ante

Jie Gao entered the pot from the hi-jack with a raise to 1,700 only to have John Dalessandri move all in from the button for 7,150 with Gao making the call.

Gao: {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}
Dalessandri: {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}

The board ran out {4-Spades}{7-Spades}{8-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{2-Spades} to see Dalessandri snatch a double to over 15,000.

Obrestad Doomswitched to Rail?

Level 8 : 400/800, 75 ante
Annette Obrestad isn't happy anymore!
Annette Obrestad isn't happy anymore!

After having her starting table broken, online phenom and Full Tilt Poker Red Pro Annette Obrestad was moved to a table that featured two fellow Red Pro's in Jonathan Karamalikis and Simon Watt.

Unfortunately this move would result in her theoretical doomswitch being activated after her kings were bested by Charles Chua to leave her with under ten big blinds.

Facing a Watt open, Obrestad three-bet jammed her remaining few thousand (an amount under 6,000) and was cold-called by a player in late position as Watt folded.

Obrestad: {J-}{J-}
Opponent: {A-}{A-}

Unfortunately for Obrestad she was unable to improve, and consequently was bumped to the rail on a table that appears to have a maximum Full Tilt Poker Red Pro capacity of just two!

For those out there - and there are many - that feel they didn't get enough of Annette today, here is PokerNews' own Lynn Gilmartin catching up with here during the last break.
