Queensland Flood Relief: dig deep!
Queensland Flood Relief: dig deep!

As the blinds tick over into the sixth level of the day, we can confirm that the official number of entries into today's tournament is 151, which means a modest prizepool of AUD$151,000 has been generated. Still, with an Aussie Millions title up for grabs, it's nothing to be sneezed at.

We can also report an additional $1,000 has been donated to the Salvation Army Queensland Flood Relief Appeal, thanks to the generosity of one "Ralph B".

For those who haven't kept up with the news, the north-eastern state of Queensland has been devastated by floods, leaving tens of thousands of people left homeless and taking the lives of more than a dozen people, with many more still missing.

Crown Casino have stepped up to help out, placing collection tins throughout the complex and it is hoped that anyone who makes the money in an Aussie Millions event will donate some of their winnings to the cause. As a show of good faith, Crown will match all donations dollar for dollar.

On behalf of the entire PokerNews team, we'd like to give our best wishes to everyone affected by this crisis and send out the call to get everyone in the poker community to help their fellow man!

Heskin Wreaks Havoc!

Level 6 : 300/600, 0 ante

Michael "Sticky" Guttman may have built his stack up even more, but he's just been surpassed for the chip lead by Melbourne's own Dave Heskin.

Earlier, Guttman moved up to 65,000 after eliminating another opponent when his {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{7-Spades} improved to a set on the board of {3-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{2-Spades}{K-Spades} against his opponent's {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{5-Spades}.

However, we managed to squeeze through the crowd which had built up around 28 to see Heskin and Jason Samsonov get all their money into a flop of {2-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}. Samsonov had tried to shove Heskin off the hand with {A-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} (good for the nut flush draw), but Heskin wasn't going anywhere with his {Q-Spades}{8-Hearts}{3-Spades}{3-Clubs} for bottom set.

Needing any diamond, Samsonov was in the red after the turn and the river ran black, in the form of {5-Spades}, {K-Spades}. Samsonov stormed off and Heskin was more than happy to stack up his chips, worth more than 90,000 and putting him up as the clear chip leader!

A Tale of Two Grants

Level 6 : 300/600, 0 ante
Richard Ashby (during Opening Event): busto
Richard Ashby (during Opening Event): busto

We've seen a fair bit of action on the feature table during the last level and we're happy to report that 2007 APPT Sydney Main Event champion Grant Levy is still alive after having doubled up twice to now sit on more than 28,000.

The first double-up came through Full Tilt Red Pro Richard Ashby; Levy raised to 1,700 from the hijack position and Ashby reraised to 5,000 from the cutoff before the small blind player accidentally mucked his hand. Levy called all-in, showing {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{4-Spades} against Ashby's {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}, but managed to hit a full house on the board of {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{8-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{J-Hearts}.

Had the small blind actually called preflop with his {A-}{A-}{9-}{5-}, Levy would have had a lot more, but it didn't matter. Levy managed to get his money in good a short time later with {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}{9-Spades}{8-Clubs} against Mark Furness' {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{10-Clubs} which held all the way down the board of {3-Hearts}{8-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}.

Tablemate Grant Trask then delivered the knockout blow to Ashby when his {8-}{5-}{4-}{2-} cracked Ashby's {A-}{A-}{5-}{2-} when Trask hit his straight on the board of {7-}{5-}{3-}{4-}{6-} to move up to more than 70,000.

Boatman Sunk, Jackie's Junked

Barny Boatman: abandon ship!
Barny Boatman: abandon ship!

The 2011 Aussie Millions $1,100 PLO Event started with 151 players and we're now down to just 47 after the recent eliminations of Hendon Mobster Barny Boatman and Jackie Glazier.

We were unable to ascertain the details of Glazier's bust-out, but Boatman was felled at the hands of Matthew Konnecke. On a flop of {3-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{10-Clubs}, Boatman and Jimmy Wong checked before Konnecke led out for 9,300. The player on the button called all-in for 3,000 and Boatman check-raised all-in before Wong got out of the way.

Button: {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{7-Clubs}
Boatman: {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}
Konnecke: {J-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}

Boatman was in great shape to take down the pot with the nut flush and kept his lead when the {A-Diamonds} came down on the turn, but he was cast out after Konnecke spiked the {J-Spades} on the river for the full house to move up to 60,000 in chips.

A Tale of Two Grants (Part II)

Level 7 : 400/800, 0 ante

There's now only one Grant left in the field after Grant Trask eliminated Grant Levy on the feature table as play continues in this event.

Levy raised to 2,400 from under the gun and both Ali Aksoy and Mark Furness called before Trask reraised to 9,800 from the big blind. Levy four-bet it to 20,400 and Aksoy and Furness folded before Trask popped it again, forcing Levy all-in.

Trask: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}
Levy: {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{10-Spades}

Board: {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}

With Levy's elimination, this put Trask up to 118,000, but his reign was short-lived after Aksoy managed to take a huge pot of him moment later. With action all the way down a board of {10-Hearts}{3-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}, Trask check-tank-called Aksoy's bet of 24,000 on the river, only to muck in disgust after Aksoy tabled {A-Spades}{a-Hearts}{j-Spades}{2-Spades}.

Trask is down to 62,000 while Aksoy is now the chip leader with more than 112,000 in his stack.
