A Little Breathing Room

Level 4 : 150/300, 25 ante

Tournament staff are slowly making tables eight-handed now, meaning the players can spread out a little. That means things will be a little less heated at the feature table. James Akenhead just got moved elsewhere in the room. His former tablemates also aren't missing Phil Ivey, who hasn't come back from break yet.

Number Crunchin'

Level 4 : 150/300, 25 ante

We have just confirmed that the official number of entries for Day 1a of the 2011 Aussie Millions Main Event is 238, which is five more than last year. Currently, 190 players remain.

Granted, it's a very slight increase in the quantity, but as for the quality, it's a massive jump! With so many superstars in the field, plus the standard of play we've seen so far, it's shaping up for one of the most hotly contested Aussie Millions titles in history.

And regardless of how well the big names like Ivey, Antonius, Dwan et. al. perform today, they'll still be around for the rest of the week hitting up the High Stakes Cash Games, so there's plenty of opportunities to see your favorite players in action at Crown over the next few days.

Gets Him Everytime

Level 4 : 150/300, 25 ante

Mike Matusow raised to 725 from under the gun and play was quickly folded around to the big blind who made the call.

On the flop the {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} enticed checks from both players and sent the {a-Clubs} rolling out on the turn. Checked to Matusow he made it 800 to see a river and his opponent called.

The river was the {q-Diamonds} and this time the player led for 2,300. Matusow made the call and mucked when he saw his opponents {4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for a rivered flush.

"This guy beats me every hand, no matter what," Matusow said as he now he sits with a rather smaller chip stack in front of him.

Terrence Collects Some Chan-ge

Level 4 : 150/300, 25 ante

Terrence Chan raised preflop and got one caller. The flop fell {9-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{5-Clubs}. Chan bet 800, and his opponent raised it to 2,100. Chan thought a bit before announcing he was all in. The other player promptly folded. Chan's inching his way back to 10,000.

Akenhead's Makin' Bacon

Level 4 : 150/300, 25 ante

James Akenhead is on the march, moving up to more than 70,000 in chips after a huge pot on the feature table played out just before he was balanced to another table.

Akenhead raised from the UTG +1 and the action folded to an opponent in middle position who reraised, forcing the others out of the way before Akenhead called to go heads-up to a flop that read {3-Spades}{A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}.

Akenhead checked, the player led out for 2,400 and Akenhead called before check-calling again on the turn of the {8-Clubs} after the player fired out a second shell worth 5,600. Both players then checked the river of the {A-Diamonds} and Akenhead turned up {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}, confident that he was ahead.

He was right - the opponent threw his hand into the muck. Akenhead is now on table 33.

...And Akenhead Gives Up a Strip

Level 4 : 150/300, 25 ante

Akenhead was just getting settled at his new table when he was forced to give up a small chunk of his iceberg of chips. His opponent moved all in for 7,200 on a board reading {a-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{7-Spades}, and Akenhead decided on a call. But he regretted it when he saw the other player's {a-Spades}{4-Hearts}. Akenhead tapped the table and turned over {8-Clubs}{8-Spades}. Earlier in the day, Akenhead managed to hit quad eights. He would have settled for a set of them here, but the {7-Hearts} river was no help. The burnt Englishman is still doing quite well, however, with about 55,000.
