Aussie Millions Main Event

Day 2 Started

Guess Who's Back?

We're back! And it appears that you guys are, too.

So, a very warm welcome back to Melbourne where you'll find us inside the Crown Casino for Day 2 of the Aussie Millions Main Event. So far, more than 650 players have put up the requisite AU$ 10,000 and had their go at this title. After the three starting flights, more than half of them have been eliminated, and 305 will return to the felt today.

Day 1a saw Brett Watson open up a huge gap on the field, bagging up 257,400 chips to make his the score to beat for the "b" and "c" flights. Nobody could do it. James Dempsey could only muster 189,000 on Day 1b, and yesterday's big stack was Robert Lam's 198,400. A look at top ten sees a few particularly notable names in the chase pack, including none other than Phil Ivey.

Ivey played yesterday's Day 1c, and there was no stopping him. He had quadruped his starting stack within the first two levels, and he ended up with 184,000 chips to bring back to Day 2. Jason Koon is fresh off a fourth-place finish in the PCA $25,000 High Roller event, and he's going to start play with 156,300 chips. Others up near the top of the counts include Kenna James, Michael Pedley, David Steicke, Andrew Hinrichsen, Dominykas Karmazinas, and Melanie Weisner.

The cards will be in the air in about 15 minutes time, so don't wander off on us!

Dypvik Captures Event #11 Title

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

While the cost for the Main Event may prove too pricey for some, the folks at the Crown have put some more affordable options on the schedule. One such tournament was Event #11: $550 NLHE, which took place on Monday and was capped at 170 players. Peter Costa, the 2003 Aussie Millions champ, was in the field and looking to capture a portion of the $85,000 prize pool. Of that, $19,130 was reserved for first, while the remainder of the top 18 were guaranteed at least $1,060.

While Costa wasn’t able to make the money, some familiar names like Tony Delavinias and Chris Ozer did. Here is a look at that event’s final table:

Kanaan Questions The Moose

We caught the action over on Raemin Alexander's and Michael Kanaan's table with a board showing {j-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{5-Clubs}{6-Hearts} and the two players going head-to-head in the hand. There was over 20,000 in the pot by this point and Raemin Alexander check-called an 8,000 bet from Kanaan.

The {6-Hearts} completed the board and and both players opted to check. Kanaan turned over his {j-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for top pair, with his kicker falling short of Alexander's {j-Hearts}{q-Hearts}.

This is when we got a little more info as to what happened before the board ran out. "You three-betting me with that shit? Okay, I see!" Kanaan said to Alexander as the pot was raked his way.

Gill Gets There

Oliver Gill started the day off with a nice win. He raised under the gun to 2,200 and the player on the button called. The flop came down {J-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{7-Clubs} and Gill fired 2,500 into his opponent who made the call.

The turn was the {4-Spades} and now Gill opted to check. His opponent bet 2,000 and Gill decided to check-raise to 5,100 leaving himself with around 14,000 behind. Once more his opponent didn't fold and the river was the {10-Hearts}. Gill now put in 8,000 chips and risking most of his chips in the first level of the day. After tanking for quite some time his opponent called and Gill showed {4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} for the winning full house.

Tran Beats Von Kriegenbergh

JC Tran, Taylor von Kriegenbergh and Tom Grigg were seated at table 6 for the first couple of hands. Their table was one of the first to break, but still Tran managed to get a nice profit.

On a {7-Clubs}{2-Spades}{6-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} board Tran had bet 13,500 from the big blind into a pot worth around 22,000. Von Kriegenbergh was two to his left and pondered for a long time but eventually gave it up. Tran took down the pot and started the day with a win.

Dwan Versus Brammer Versus Koon

Table 40 is a mine field of talent with Tom Dwan, Chris Brammer, and Jason Koon all sat down.

Dwan, one of the best cash game players in the world, just took on and lost to Brammer, currently ranked number one on Pocket Fives for MTTs.

The pot seemed to have been three-bet pre flop and the two were heads-up to a {2-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{a-Hearts} flop. Dwan checked from the small blind and called when Brammer bet 10,500 from mid position. The turn was the {A-Clubs} and Dwan checked again. Brammer took his time, the whole while been stared down by Dwan, before he bet 20,500. Call.

The river brought the {4-Clubs} and both players checked quickly. "You check?" asked Dwan, seemingly surprised by the speed of the check behind by Brammer, who had now opened {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}. Dwan mucked.
