Seidel Busts Esfandiari and Gruissem

Level 13 : 6,000/12,000, 1,000 ante
Philipp Gruissem
Philipp Gruissem

A very short-stacked Philipp Gruissem raised to 50,000 in the hijack, leaving about 50,000 behind. Erik Seidel three-bet to 100,000 in the cutoff, Antonio Esfandiari three-bet to 230,000 out of the big blind, and Gruissem immediately called all in. Seidel moved all in for effectively 370,000, and Esfandiari called.

Gruissem: {4-Spades}{4-Clubs}
Seidel: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Esfandiari: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

The flop fell {6-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}, giving Esfandiari a backdoor flush draw to go with his one overcard, but the {7-Hearts} on the turn left him drawing to the three aces in the deck. Gruissem needed one of the two remaining fours, and neither player was fortunate enough to bink as the {k-Hearts} completed the board.

Seidel is up to 860,000 chips, while Esfandiari and Gruissem are both eliminated.

Antonius Wakes Up with Aces to Eliminate Reigning WSOP Champ

Level 13 : 6,000/12,000, 1,000 ante
Ryan Riess
Ryan Riess

Ryan Riess and Patrik Antonius engaged in a back-and-forth raising contest that resulted in the former player getting all his chips in preflop.

Riess: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}
Antonius: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}

Riess has run into several tough hands today, but this was primed to be his last. The {10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{3-Hearts} flop gave Riess little in the way of hope, and the {2-Clubs} turn actually left him draw dead. "Good luck guys," Riess offered even before the {5-Spades} completed the board on the river.

Riess was bounced in 13th place while Antonius vaulted up to 1.55 million

Ryan RiessAK to AA to bust in 13th :( pretty oi but played great all day and kept getting coolered. What can you do. On to the next one #RIP100K

Steicke Sticks the Flop to Double Through Antonius

Level 14 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

David Steicke got his stack of 290,000 all in preflop holding the {a-Spades}{9-Spades} and was in a bad spot against Patrik Antonius' {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}. Fortunately for Steicke, who won this event back in 2009, the {9-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{7-Hearts} flop was gin as it delivered him two pair.

Antonius simply rolled his eyes and then watched helplessly as the {4-Clubs} blanked on the turn followed by the {9-Clubs} on the river. Ship the double to Steicke.

Polk Leads Turn Into Steicke

Level 14 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

From under the gun, David Steicke raised to 36,000. He was called by Doug Polk from the small blind, and Patrik Antonius out of the big blind. Then, the dealer spread the {8-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop, and action checked to Steicke. He bet 56,000, Polk called, and Antonius folded.

After the {8-Clubs} paired the board on the turn, Polk led with a bet of 136,000. Steicke opted to fold, and Polk won the pot.

Yong Turns Two Pair

Level 14 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

From the cutoff seat, Richard Yong raised to 35,000. Erik Seidel made the call from the button, and the flop came down {9-Spades}{8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}. Yong checked, and Seidel bet 35,000. Yong called.

The turn was the {K-Spades}, and both players checked. They also both checked after the {10-Diamonds} landed on the river. Yong showed the {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}, and Seidel mucked his hand.
