Hansen Drops One To Goel

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

From early position, Gus Hansen raised to 2,000. Adesh Goel reraised to 4,000 on the button, and then Jamie Roberts called from the big blind. Hansen opted to reraise and made it 12,200 to go. Goel called, and Roberts folded.

The flop was {Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{4-Clubs}, and Hansen bet 10,100. Goel made the call, and the dealer added the {10-Clubs} to the board on the turn. Hansen checked, Goel bet 22,000, and Hansen folded.

Maggs Sent to the Rail

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Arthur Maggs got his stack of 19,000 or so all in preflop and was in bad shape against Carmelo Frazzetto.

Maggs: {a-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Frazzetto: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

Maggs was in need of some help, but he found none on the {q-Spades}{2-Spades}{6-Hearts} flop. The {3-Spades} turn was actually a great card as Maggs picked up a flush draw, but it did him little good as the {5-Clubs} blanked on the river.

Grigg Crowns King Dan in th' Knickers an' Nicks His Crown!

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Dan Smith
Dan Smith

Full Tilt Poker Ambassador Tom Grigg opened for 1,800 only to have "King" Dan Smith, who won the $100,000 Challenge here two years back, three-bet to 4,600. Not to be outdone, Grigg four-bet to 10,200 and then called when Smith five-bet all in for roughly 40,000.

Grigg: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Smith: {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

It was a classic race, and according to the PokerNews Odds Calculator Smith was a slight 56.65% favorite while Grigg would score the elimination 42.95% of the time.

The {2-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{3-Spades} flop was safe for Smith, and he pulled out to a 3-1 lead. Unfortunately for him, that is when the dealer burned and turned the {A-Diamonds}. Grigg paired his ace to become a massive 95.45% favorite, which meant Smith needed to catch a jack and a jack only to survive. He had a 4.55% chance of doing it, but in this particular hand it didn't come as the {10-Spades} blanked on the river.

2004 Aussie Millions Champ Eliminated

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

"All in and a call Table 32," we heard a dealer yell. We made our way over just in time to discover 2004 Aussie Millions winner Tony Bloom was all in for 50,000 or so holding the {a-Hearts}{8-Clubs} on a {7-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{k-Hearts} flop. His opponent held the {k-Spades}{10-Diamonds} for two pair, which meant Bloom needed to hit a heart to keep his hopes of winning the title for a second time alive.

Bloom was on his feet to watch the dealer burn and turned the {Q-Spades}. It was a blank for Bloom. He had one more crack at it, but lady luck did not favor him as the {A-Spades} peeled off on the river.

Bloom made a pair of aces, but it wasn't enough. "Nice hand," he said before collecting his things and taking his leave from the 2014 Aussie Millions Main Event. While he may be gone in this tournament, we expect we'll see Bloom in the $100,000 Challenge a couple days from now.

Mercier Staying Active

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

Team PokerStars Pros Jason Mercier has been staying very, very active at the table today. In fact, every time we look he's involved in a hand. He began the day with over 130,000 in chips, but began losing chips and sank as low as 80,000. Now, he's back over 140,000, even despite losing this last pot to Matias Chincuini.

Mercier and Chincuini saw the flop come down {K-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{4-Clubs}. Mercier checked, Chincuini bet 5,500, and Mercier called. Then, the {5-Clubs} was added to the board on the turn, and Mercier checked. Chincuini fired 8,500, and Mercier folded.
