Cracked Aces Send Joe Hachem to the Rail in 79th Place

Joe Hachem

More than 10 years ago, Joe Hachem changed the face of poker in Australia when he won the 2005 World Series of Poker. Since then, he's been the most famous poker player in the "Land Down Under," and it was exciting to see both him and his brother, Tony, make a deep run in this event. Unfortunately for Joe, his journey just came to an end due to a bad beat.

It happened when Hachem opened for 13,000 from early position and action folded all the way around to Cankai Zhang in the big blind. He opted to defend and proceeded to check-call a bet of 15,000 on the {j-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{7-Hearts} flop. When the dealer burned and turned the {5-Spades}, Zhang checked for a second time and Hachem moved all in for 78,000. Zhang thought for a bit and then made the call.

Zhang: {k-Spades}{7-Spades}
Hachem: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}

Hachem got it in good, but Zhang was drawing very much alive with his paired seven and spade draw. Hachem, who was flanked by his sons on the rail, look skyward as the dealer burned one last time and put out the {6-Spades}.

Zhang spiked his flush and a frustrated Hachem, who was also being followed by a documentary film crew, had no choice but to make his way to the payout desk.
