Gruissem Doubles Ren in Huge Pot

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Philip Gruissem
Philip Gruissem

We were there only for the showdown of this big hand, but Xingrong Ren was kind enough to fill us in on the details afterwards.

After an early position raise to 10,000 it was Phillipp Gruissem who called from middle position. Ren three-bet squeezed to 36,000 from the small blind and the big blind and initial raiser both gave up. Gruissem called in position.

The flop came {3-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{J-Hearts} and Ren made a bet of 40,000. Gruissem called.

The {8-Diamonds} fell on the turn and Ren checked. Gruissem announced all in and Ren snap called for 174,500!

Philipp Gruissem: {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}
Xingrong Ren: {9-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}

The river {2-Hearts} was a blank and Gruissem parted ways with a huge part of his stack.

Brutal Set Over Set Sends Quoss to the Rail

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Fabian Quoss
Fabian Quoss

We picked up the action with around 25,000 in the pot and a flop of {7-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}. Bowdy Tolhopf checked from the big blind and Fabian Quoss bet 14,000 from middle position. Tolhopf took his time before check-raising to 45,000, and Quoss responded by moving all in for 115,000. Tolhopf, who didn't have too much more than that, snap-called.

Tolhopf: {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}
Quoss: {2-Spades}{2-Hearts}

Both players had flopped sets, but unfortunately for Quoss his was second best. Neither the {9-Clubs} turn nor {4-Hearts} river delivered him the quads he needed, and Quoss wish the table good luck before taking his leave short of the money.

Reijmer Cripples Seidel, Chidwick Knocks Him Out

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Erik Seidel
Erik Seidel

Via Daniel Reijmer we found out what had happened to Erik Seidel, who we just caught getting knocked out by Stephen Chidwick.

Seidel raised from the hijack and Reijmer three-bet from the button with pocket kings. The flop brought out {2-}{2-Clubs}{6-Clubs} and Seidel check-called a bet from the Dutchman. On the turn, a {5-}, the action got checked again, and the river was a {2-}.

Seidel lead out for 45,000 on the river and Reijmer moved all in for an additional 100,000. Seidel went into the tank before calling, and mucked when Reijmer showed his big pocket pair.

The number three on the all-time money list thought he got knocked out, but after counting down the chips he was left with 2,000. Seidel had to be called back to the table, and on the very next hand he was all in again.

Stephen Chidwick called from the small blind and Fabian Quoss checked in the big blind, putting {4-Spades}{6-Spades}{J-Clubs} on the flop. Chidwick got Quoss to fold, and the showdown went as follows.

Chidwick: {J-Spades}{8-Spades}
Seidel: {K-Diamonds}{7-Spades}

The board ran out {5-Hearts}, {4-Hearts} and Seidel was sent to the rail while joking he busted the tournament twice, after thinking he was knocked out on the previous hand.

Barer Busts

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Ami Barer
Ami Barer

Ami Barer, winner of the Aussie Millions two years ago for A$1,600,000 ($1,399,739), has just been eliminated.

Mustapha Kanit opened to 9,000 and Daniel Engels made the call. Ami Barer right behind him squeezed all in for just over 100,000 and Kanit folded. Engels made the call having flatted with {Q-}{Q-}. Barer had {A-}{K-} suited but failed to improve.

With the departure of Barer, the tournament has now lost all its former champions.

2017 Aussie Millions Dates Announced

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

The dates for the 2017 Aussie Millions Poker Championship have been announced. The festival will begin Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, and run until Monday, Jan. 30. Crown Melbourne will once again be the host, and the Main Event will continue its partnership as part of the PokerStars.net Asia-Pacific Poker Tour.

The Main Event will run Jan. 22-29 and feature three starting flights.

“The 2017 Aussie Millions will again be the biggest and best to date, as effectively one of the top poker majors and a favorite amongst some of the most renowned players in the world," said Aussie Millions Tournament Director, Joel Williams. "The stage has never been brighter, and the team are all hard at work to make the next event the biggest and best yet."

The schedule for the 2017 series has yet to be released soon, but a note sent to the media said that more than 20 gold ring events can be expected.

"Aussie Millions is one of my favorite stops of the year," said Team PokerStars Pro member and three-time World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner Jason Mercier, who was at the Aussie Millions this year when the announcement for 2017 was made. "It's really hard to top the overall experience here."

Dunst Doubles Into the Chip Lead

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Tony Dunst on Day 2
Tony Dunst on Day 2

In the last hand before the break, a huge had took place between WPT Raw Deal host Tony Dunst and Jean-Pascal Savard.

It happened when a player raised from early position and Savard three-bet to 22,000 from middle position. Action folded to Dunst in the big blind, and he opted to pop it to 55,000. The original raiser folded, and Savard thought for a bit before he made the call.

When the flop came down {5-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{7-Diamonds}, Dunst led out for 48,000 and then snap-called off for 242,000 total after Savard moved all in.

Savard: {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}
Dunst: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

"Do you fold kings there?" asked Savard, who was looking to flush up with a diamond.

"Vomit call," replied Dunst, meaning he would have called with kings but wouldn't have been happy about it.

As it was, Dunst was in the lead with top set. The {A-Clubs} turn, while it paired Savard, changed nothing, and neither did the {2-Spades} river. Dunst successfully dodged a diamond and doubled though the big stack.

Dzmitry Urbanovich Eliminated

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Dzmitry Urbanovich
Dzmitry Urbanovich

Polish poker phenom Dzmitry Urbanovich has just been eliminated from the tournament. He started out the day with just under quarter of a million chips, but was already down to 145,000 when his final hand started.

Jack O'Neill raised to 11,000 from the button and Urbanovich three-bet to 22,500 from the small blind with about 120,000 behind.

The big blind quickly released but O'Neill had bigger plans. The Brit four-bet to 46,000. Urbanovich leaned back and thought about it for just a bit before announcing all in. O'Neill instantly called by tossing in some more yellow 5,000-chips.

Jack O'Neill: {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}
Dzmitry Urbanovich: {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}

The board ran out {J-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{A-Spades}{4-Clubs} and Urbanovich left the tournament area.

Martin Jacobson Busts in "Next Level Jedi Mind Trick" Hand

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Martin Jacobson
Martin Jacobson

Mikel Habb raised to 7,000, and Martin Jacobson pushed from the small blind for 70,000. Bernhard Haider, from Austria, shoved from the big blind for 85,500, and action moved back to Habb.

"I have a big hand, you know," Habb said while looking at both Jacobson and Haider. He then revealed his {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} and played around with them for a good minute before folding.

"Oh wow," Jacobson replied upon seeing the fold.

Jacobson showed the {3-Spades}{3-Hearts}, Haider revealed his {A-Hearts}{10-Clubs}, and the other players at the table went wild, as did the rail.

"You just folded queens, bro?" asked Alek Givotovsky at the top of his lungs. Habb didn't look to bothered by the showdown, still confident his fold was "good."

The flop came {K-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{7-Hearts}, and Habb still didn't seem too fazed. The {10-Hearts} on the turn brought a mysterious grin to his face, followed by a determined pointing finger to the rail, Givotovsky, and other critics after the {10-Diamonds} completed the board to give Haider trips.

"Bravo!" shouted a fan on the rail. "Well done!"

"This is like some next level Jedi mind trick man!" Givotovsky added.

"Bravo! Happy for you man" shouted the man on the rail again.

"This guy is straight out of Hogwarts!" Victor Teng concluded.

Flush Over Straight For Boeree

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Liv Boeree
Liv Boeree

Alex Lee just raised from late position to 6,000 and the player on his left called before Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree called from the big blind as well.

The flop brought out {A-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{3-Spades} and all three players checked, putting the {4-Hearts} on the turn. Boeree checked again, and Lee now bet 8,600, which was only called by Boeree.

On the river the {7-Spades} hit and now Boeree lead out for 14,000. Lee went into the tank for a bit before raising enough to put Boeree all in, and she snap-called for an additional 14,100.

Lee showed {5-Spades}{5-Hearts} for a straight, and Boeree doubled holding {Q-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for a flush.

Players Set To Reach the Money on Day 3 of the 2016 Aussie Millions Main Event; Honeyman Leads

Welcome back for Day 3 of the 2016 Aussie Millions Main Event.

With 150 players remaining, the field will look to make its way into the money on Thursday. The top 80 spots will pay a minimum of AU$15,000, and without a doubt tensions will be high for all of those left competing.

The player with the least amount of worry is Dylan Honeyman, who bagged up an impressive, field-leading stack of 517,200 after Day 2. Honeyman finished ahead of Jean-Pascal Savard's second-place stack of 455,200 by a considerable margin and is representing the home country of Australia.

Rounding out the top five behind Honeyman and Savard are Daniel Engles (427,300), Bobby Zhang (425,900), and Jason Brown (401,600).

After bagging up the overall chip lead heading into Day 2 of the event, James Obst had himself another positive day on Wednesday. He worked his was from 212,100 to 378,500 to place sixth on the leaderboard. Obst has had much success in Australia, which includes him winning an LK Boutique Aussie Millions ring at this year's festival, but his only Main Event cash came in 2013 when he took 19th from a field of 629 for AU$40,000. All signs point to him making another deep run this year for a man many consider Australian poet's best all-around player.

A couple of World Series of Poker Main Event champions also remain, with Joe Hachem and Martin Jacobson both advancing to Day 3. Hachem, who won the WSOP Main Event in 2005 for $7.5 million, will have 139,700 to start the day, and Jacobson, who won the WSOP Main Event in 2014 for $10 million, is on the shorter side of things with 42,500.

Another player with championship pedigree, specifically in this event, is Ami Barer, the 2014 winner. Barer is the only former Aussie Millions Main Event winner still alive in the field, and he takes a healthy 263,500 into Day 3. Not only did Barer win the event in 2014, but he ran all the way down to 11th place in 2015, trying ever so hard to hold onto his title before he ultimately fell short. With the 15th-best stack coming into Day 3, it looks like we're going to be seeing plenty of Barer in the days to come.

Last, but certainly not least, there is Tony Dunst with 256,900 in chips. The American once lived in Australia for an extended period of time before the government kicked him out due to Dunst overextending his stay, but he's back and looking to work his magic in the Main Event. For Dunst, Day 2 was a very quiet one until the end, and that's when his stack really ballooned.

In the second-to-last level of Day 2, Dunst cracked pocket queens with his pocket jacks against former Aussie Millions Main Event winner Oliver Speidel to double up. Speidel was later eliminated. Then, in the last level of play, right at the end of the day, Dunst was all in against both Richard Ashby and Julius Colman in a three-way clash of big pocket pairs. Dunst had two kings, Ashby had two queens, and Colman had two jacks. The kings held for Dunst, and both Ashby and Colman were done.

Just like it has on the prior days, Aussie Millions Main Event action will commence at 12:30 p.m. local time on Thursday for Day 3. Again, 150 remain, Honeyman leads, and the top 80 will reach the money. Seven 90-minute levels are scheduled, with a 15-minute break after each and a 75-minute dinner break after Level 16. That means the day will be long, but it'll only get more and more exciting as it goes on.

Stay tuned right here to PokerNews.com for continued coverage.
