Bicknell Building

Level 7 : 300/600, 100 ante
Kristen Bicknell
Kristen Bicknell

We arrived at the table on the turn with the community cards showing {7-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}. It was heads up and the player in the big blind checked it over the Kristen Bicknell.

Bicknell fired for 3,200 which was met with a call before the dealer presented the {10-Clubs} river card. The big blind checked again and after taking another peek at her cards, Bicknell bet 4,100.

After two minutes’ deliberation the big blind let it go and Bicknell was awarded the pot.

Nitsche's Big Bet Does Not Get the Job Done

Level 7 : 300/600, 100 ante

Dominik Nitsche raised the cutoff to 1,300 and the player in the big blind called. That player check-called a bet of 1,700 on {6-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{7-Clubs} and checked again on the {2-Diamonds} turn. Nitsche bet 9,000 and after some pondering, the call followed.

Both players checked the {9-Clubs} on the river and Nitsche, having to show first as the last agressor always shows first here in Australia - no matter if that was on a street other than the river, tabled {5-Spades}{3-Spades}. The big blind showed {10-Hearts}{J-Hearts} and Nitsche licked his wounds.

Small Win for Marquez

Level 7 : 300/600, 100 ante

Matas Cimbolas opened the hijack to 1,500 and his neighbor in the cutoff called. Ana Marquez defended her big blind and all three of them checked the {5-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} flop. Marquez lead out for 3,800 on the {J-Diamonds} turn and Cimbolas folded, the cutoff called.

Marquez bet the {7-Clubs} river by tossing in two 5,000-chips, though we couldn;t hear how much the bet exactly was. Her opponent folded and Marquez raked in the small pot.

Mo’mentum

Level 7 : 300/600, 100 ante

Jason Mo is accumulating chips in the final level here – the most recent addition to his stack can be attributed to a flopped straight.

We caught the action from the turn with the board showing {10-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}. Players were heads up and the big blind checked it over to Mo in the under the gun seat. The latter bet 3,800 and after a call the dealer revealed the {k-Diamonds} river.

A final check from the big blind prompted Mo to fire for 9,600. The bet was paid off and Mo tabled {q-Spades}{j-Spades} for a straight.

McCorkell Pressures Grigg

Level 7 : 300/600, 100 ante

On a board reading {2-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} Craig McCorkell checked his option over to Tom Grigg who bet out 1,200. McCorkell called.

The {10-Hearts} completed the board and once again McCorkell checked. Grigg reached for his chips and tossed out 2,500. McCorkell then gathered some chips and splashed out a raise to 13,500.

Grigg let out a loud frustrated sigh before instantly mucking his hand relinquishing the pot.

Tollerene Collects a Scalp

Level 7 : 300/600, 100 ante

On a flop of {4-Clubs}{a-Spades}{5-Diamonds} a short-stacked player moved all in for his remaining 4,400 and was called by Ben Tollerene.

Tollerene: {3-Clubs}{5-Clubs}
Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}

The turn would drop the {3-Hearts} to give Tollerene the lead with two pair. The meaningless {q-Diamonds} completed the board handing Tollerene the small pot.

"That's all she wrote," said a distraught opponent to his rail, before he collected his belongings, and headed for the door agonisingly close to the end of the opening day's play.

Dunst Moving On Up

Level 7 : 300/600, 100 ante

Last year’s runner-up Tony Dunst is not only still in contention but taking down pots as we enter the final stages of Day 1c. Dunst just added to his stack at the detriment of Thomas Miller.

The board read {6-Clubs}{k-Spades}{7-Clubs}{7-Hearts} and while we missed the preflop and flop action, with almost 13,000 in the pot already it was clear the two had been making use of raising chips. Dunst checked the turn in the small blind and Miller, the only other active player, checked behind.

The {3-Spades} arrived on the river and Dunst decided on a hefty wager of 13,500. That was too much for Miller who relinquished his hand and forfeited the pot over to Dunst.

Jackie Glazier
Jackie Glazier

With under half an hour left for the day, Jackie Glazier has been eliminated. As we arrived, Glazier was already making her way to the exit. Her former neighbor Ana Marquez told us she had gotten it pre-flop all in with {A-}{Q-} up against {10-}{10-} and did not hit.

Koren Applies the Pressure

Level 7 : 300/600, 100 ante

We arrived at the table to find over 30,000 already in the pot and the board spread out {6-Clubs}{3-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}.

Artur Koren had bet out 16,600 and was waiting for his opponent who was contemplating his decision.

"Time!" Koren requested casually. "It's been six minutes". The tournament director was called and began the 60-second countdown for Koren's opponent.

"Can I show my cards before I call?" asked the player. He was told he couldn't and eventually opted to fold tabling {a-Spades}{8-Clubs} in the process.

Unlucky Engel Takes a Hit

Level 7 : 300/600, 100 ante

There were two active players on a flop of {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{5-Spades} and the big blind led out for 2,800. Ari Engel was on the button and he bumped it up to 7,600. The bet was called and the {4-Spades} arrived on the turn.

The big blind checked it over to Engel who continued for 7,600. His opponent then moved all in for a total of 21,600. Engel snapped it off and the cards went on their backs.

Engel: {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}
Opponent: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

Engel had the best of it with three of a kind jacks and only needed to fade a spade to ensure he locked up the healthy pot and sent his tablemate packing. The {2-Spades} meant that wasn’t to be as the player in the big blind completed the nut flush and Engel lost a decent portion of his stack.
