Day 2 of AU$50,000 Challenge is Here with Kahle Burns Leading 23 Survivors

Kahle Burns
Kahle Burns

Welcome back to the 2019 Aussie Millions for Day 2 of the Event #12: AU$50,000 Challenge from Crown Melbourne in Melbourne, Australia.

Sunday saw a total of 37 entrants take to the felt throughout the shortened day of play, and with the registration and re-entry period still open for another two-and-a-half levels, the field size is expected to continue to grow. Chino Rheem has already expressed that he'll be entering for the third time at some point today, while Bryn Kenney is another player expected to fire again. With a prize pool sitting just shy of AU$1.8 million, there is no doubt that players that are eliminated in the early part of today will be tempted to fire again.

With play ending short of the expected end time, just 23 players bagged chips. Melbourne's Kahle Burns went on an impressive heater in the middle stages of the day and held on to end with the chip lead as he finished with an impressive 242,300 in chips. Alex Foxen (139,900), Hideki Izutsu (128,900), and Toby Lewis (109,200) are his closest rivals, but with a deep structure still in play, Burns is far from being a sure thing at this early stage. Other notables also surviving into Day 2 include AU$25,000 Challenge winner Rainer Kempe, Dominik Nitsche, Michael Addamo, Maria Ho, Jack Sinclair, Jack Salter, and Rory Young.

Due to the parameters of the tournament being altered, here is how Day 2 will play out.

There will be no overnight re-draw, instead a re-draw will occur after level six - the intended Day 1 ending. After this redraw, players will have their time extension buttons reset to two, and after one more level is complete, registration will be closed at the end of level seven; approximately 4 p.m. (AEDT). Players still have unlimited re-entries in the AU$50,000 Challenge.

The cards are in the air for Day 2 at 1:10 p.m. (AEDT) with the PokerNews Live Reporting Team providing continuous live updates of all the Event #12: AU$50,000 Challenge action. Martini Doubles Through Yotsushika

Level 5 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

The flop was spread {2-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{10-Spades}{7-Spades}{8-Hearts} and there was around 24,000 accumulated in the pot.

Julien Martini was in the small blind and checked his option. Kazuhiko Yotsushika was in the big blind and thought for a moment before announcing all in for 65,800 which had Martini covered by 1,100.

Martini went into the tank for over a minute resulting in his time extension being used as he deliberated over his decision.

He finally made the call and tabled {a-Hearts}{8-Spades} for a pair of eights. Yotsushika looked displeased and tabled {k-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} for king-high before he watched the big pot get pushed over to Martini.
