Flashback: Hasan "Huss" Onay Wins 2024 Australian Poker Open Main Event

Last year in Sydney, Hasan "Huss" Onay won the 2024 Australian Poker Open Main Event after a heads-up deal with Brazil's Higor Seibel.

Onay entered heads-up with a dominating chip lead, with Seibel managing to double once, before the players agreed to a deal.

The 549-player tournament took place at Doltone House Western Sydney at Club Marconi, with Onay taking home A$284,480 and the inaugural APO Main Event title.

Zihao Chen opened to 2,500 first to act and was called by Uno Uka on the button and the player in the big blind.

It was checked to Chen, who continued for 5,000 on the 7♠Q♥7♥ flop. Uno Uka raised to 12,000 and the big blind shoved for their last 28,000. Chen also went all in and Uka called all in for approximately 60,000 for a three-way showdown.

Uka found himself out-kicked with his trips, but the 6♦ turn filled Uka up to take a commanding lead in the hand.

The 4♠ river changed nothing and Uka doubled through Chen while also collected the rest of the big blind's chips.

Johan Lees opened to 2,400 on the button and was called by Robert Hill in the big blind.

Hill check-called a 1,400 bet from Lees on the 9♠A♠9♦ flop and both players checked on the 2♦ turn.

Hill took the initiative with a 5,000 bet after the 8♠ filled the river and Lees didn't take long to toss his hand into the muck.

Day 1f is now up to 200 entrants and climbing. Late registration will remain open until the start of Level 10.

Dale Marsland opened on the button and Geetinder Singh defended his big blind.

Singh led out for 4,000 on the 7♠4♥6♠ flop and Marsland responded by shoving for approximately 17,000 total. Singh verified the amount and stuck in a call to put Marsland at risk.

Marsland held the lead with his Cowboys, but would need to fade the open-ended straight draw of Singh.

The dealer brought the 8♥ on the turn — filling Singh's straight and leaving Marsland drawing to a chop.

It wasn't Marsland's day, however, as the A♣ river bricked out and he was sent to the rail.

Hai Kee had already opened from under the gun and was faced with a shove for 24,500 from Wei Zhu, who was on the button. Kee called to put Zhu at risk and a showdown was held.

Zhu stood up upon seeing the bad news, and the 5♣7♣J♦10♣4♦ runout kept Kee's aces best for the elimination.
