Day 1c Action

Day 1c attracted the biggest field yet with 282 entrants, nearly doubled the two previous flights combined.

bestbest Jacksonville on Day 1c

An early highlight occurred when David Jolicoeur made quad aces and managed to get paid of when he moved in on the river, while, just one table over, Lisa Kaminski binked a straight flush against her unfortunate opponent's turned set.

Another notable hand took place late in the day when Bryan Brockmeier made a hero-fold with a set of fives on a board of {5-Hearts}{j-Spades}{4-Clubs}{8-Clubs}, believing his opponent, Mary Darnell, to have a bigger set. But Darnell tabled pocket fours for a lower set and the table erupted as Brockmeier saw he was ahead the whole time.

Darnell, for her part, managed to run up her stack to end the day second in chips behind Chau.

Some of the players who didn't make it to bagging time include Charles Wardlaw, Andrew Dykeman and Gil Levy.

Day 2 will commence tomorrow, Sunday, April 24 at noon EST and will play down to a winner. The final table will be live-streamed and PokerNews is ready to bring readers updates of the Day 2 action in Event #1: $560 NLH.

Brockmeier Hero-Folds Set; Darnell Shows Smaller Set

Level 15 : 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Bryan Brockmeier
Bryan Brockmeier

Bryan Brockmeier was in a heads-up pot against Mary Darnell on a board of {5-Hearts}{j-Spades}{4-Clubs}{8-Clubs}.

Brockmeier bet 25,000 and Darnell raised to 100,000. Brockmeier told Darnell he had a set and she said she also had a set. That information led Brockmeier to make a big hero fold, laying down {5-Clubs}{5-Spades} face-up.

Darnell then flipped over {4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} for a lower set as the table erupted.

"She wasn't lying!" someone noted.

Jolicoeur Makes Quads; Kaminski Hits Straight Flush One Table Over

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
David Jolicoeur
David Jolicoeur

David Jolicoeur was out of position in a heads-up pot on a board reading {j-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{a-Clubs}.

Jolicoeur led out for 12,000 on the turn and his opponent quickly called. The river brought the {2-Spades} and Jolicoeur moved all-in for around 35,000.

His heads-up opponent tanked for several minutes as he thought through a decision.

"This is either really bad or really good," the opponent said before putting in a call.

"It's really good," Jolicoeur said, apparently referring to his own hand as he tabled {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} for quad aces.

The opponent, who showed {q-Spades}{j-Hearts} was left with crumbs and eliminated in the next hand when he moved in with {a-Clubs}{7-Hearts} and ran into the {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} of an opponent, who didn't get his kings cracked.

Just minutes later at the next table over, Lisa Kaminski hit an even rarer hand when she made a straight flush to double-up and crack an opponent's set. Kaminski held {q-Clubs}{9-Clubs} against the opponent's {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} on a board of {8-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{j-Clubs}.

Kaminski told PokerNews she moved in on the turn with her gutshot straight flush draw, running into the oponent's turned set but ultimately getting there to make the coveted straight flush.

Dykeman Finds a Call With Bottom Pair

Level 5 : 300/500, 500 ante
Andrew Dykeman
Andrew Dykeman

A player in late position opened and Andrew Dykeman defended from the big blind.

The flop of {4-Spades}{3-Spades}{9-Clubs} checked through and Dykeman check-called a bet of 1,600 on the {7-Diamonds} turn. Dykeman checked again on the {k-Hearts} river and his opponent fired for 2,000. Dykeman made the call.

The opponent showed {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts} for queen high and Dykeman flipped over {3-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for a pair of threes to take down the pot.

"Hey, PokerNews! Check this out!" Dykeman yelled with a beer in hand after finding the call with bottom pair.

"Be sure to note how shocked everyone looked," the dealer contributed.

Wardlaw Rolling in Cash; Doubles Up With Big Slick

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante
Charles Wardlaw
Charles Wardlaw

Charles Wardlaw, who looks ready to play on an episode of High Stakes Poker with a pile of banded up hundred-dollar bills in front of him, limped from under the gun and the next player to act raised to 700.

The action folded to the big blind, who called. Wardlaw then three-bet to 3,000 and the initial raiser jammed. The big blind folded and Wardlaw called with a smaller stack.

Charles Wardlaw: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}

Wardlaw had trapped his opponent and maintained the best hand to double up as the board ran out {4-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{10-Spades} to ship him the pot with a pair of kings.

Looks like he won't need to reach into that heap of cash for re-buy funds just yet.

Third and Final Starting Flight Almost Underway in Event #1: $560 NLH

bestbet Jacksonville
bestbet Jacksonville

The third and final starting flight of the Event #1: $560 NLH opening event at the bestbet Jacksonville Spring Series is scheduled to get underway at noon EST.

Like the first two starting flights, players on Day 1c will begin with a stack of 20,000 chips and blinds of 100/200, with play being eight-handed. Levels will last 30 minutes with 15-minute breaks every three levels. Late registration will remain open until the start of Level 10 and players are allowed unlimited re-entries.

Also like the first two starting flights, Day 1c will stop when 12.5% of the field remains or at the tournament director's discretion. The third and final starting flight will take place at noon on Saturday.

Day 2 will take place on Sunday, April 24 as the remaining players from each starting flight battle it out and the final table will be live-streamed on bestbetLIVE.

Georgia's Brian Dumaplin bagged the chip lead in Day 1a with a stack of 424,000 to lead the 15 players who survived the day. On Day 1b, Florida's Matthew Sundberg bagged a slightly smaller stack, 403,000, to lead the 22 remaining Day 1b players.

The third starting flight will likely be the largest of the three after Day 1a attracted 114 runners and Day 1b had 175 entrants. While the prize pool has yet to be set, $138,720 has already been generated and awaits the players who make Day 2.

Earlier this year at the 2022 bestbet Jacksonville Winter Series Open, Daniel Kusnerak of Newton, North Carolina took down the $580 NLH opening event to earn $63,223.
